Inspire HR calories burnt doesn’t seem right

Hi all, I’ve got an inspire HR and am looking at the calories burnt. I’m in my mid forties, overweight but still reasonable fit. Based on an average day at work (6000-8000 steps) and with a 1 hr cardio session at the gym, my Fitbit thinks I’m burning 4500 to 5000 kCal, which is simply not possible. I’ve checked my BMR info and my stats and yes, they are correct, but more that than, I’m looking at the science, and the likelihood that I’m burning up to 5000 kCal just cannot be accurate. Does anyone have any ideas here? Is there a formula or a margin for error that I can use to recalculate calories burnt?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @cunbc001.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing your concern about your Inspire HR overestimating your calories burned. Thanks for trying to resolve this, I appreciate the additional details and I am here to help. Fitbit devices estimate calories burned based on the your personal information, your basal metabolic rate (BMR), and the activity tracked by your device. The calorie burn estimate also takes heart rate into account. I appreciate the information that your weight and height are correct in the Fitbit app. I recommend restarting your tracker by following the steps from this help article: How do I restart my Fitbit device?

You can find information about how your calories burned are calculated and check the tips to make sure your daily activity is accurate at How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Keep me posted on the outcome. I'll be around if you have any additional questions.
