Inspire HR - doesn’t work well as a watch/display time when wrist is turned up

Unlike my previous Fitbit (Alta HR), my new Fitbit Inspire HR does not function very well as a watch. When I turn my wrist to look at the time or data it does not detect the action and does not  illuminate. I physically have to press the side button to view the time.
Does this mean it is faulty or has that feature been removed?

Hold in left side button a few seconds; look for 'Screen Wake' below battery display; tap to toggle on or off.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
