Inspire HR inaccurate GPS distance tracking with Fitbit app

New user here. Fitbit seems to show an exaggerated distance for my run versus actual distance.

I run regularly on a track with pavement markers, which means i am able to accurately gage the distance of my runs. For my run today, on the watch and app shows i ran 12.59km, but I am pretty certain I ran plus minus 10km. I exported the TCX file and used an online GPS tracker (sunearthtools dot com) to track the exact distance, it shows 9.47km. Using pavement markers, I noticed that for every 3km I ran, fitbit watch shows I have run approximately 3.75km.

Previously, i have used endomondo for distance tracking, and it does tally with the pavement markers on the track. I noticed the fluctuation/difference between the watch and my actual runs before, but this is the first time I actively checked the distance.  A previous run showed a discrepancy between 8.26km (on fitbit watch and app)  and 7.74km (on endomondo and accurate as checked on Google Maps manually). Similarly I've counterchecked on the same online GPS tracker i mentioned earlier, it accurately shows 7.74km as per endomondo.

Noticed this issue on multiple threads, but I couldn't find the solution.

For clarity, I'm using a Oneplus 6T phone, Android 10. Stride length is automatic. GPS switched on both phone and watch. Waited until GPS connected before starting my run. Wifi switched off (just in case)

@zainazri Thanks for joining us!

Let me help you with your GPS distance calculation using your Fitbit app. Since the Inspire HR doesn't have a GPS chip it uses your phone's chip so I suggest we try clearing the link between them by doing the following:

  1. Go to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there.
  2. Restart your phone and restart your device
  3. Check that no battery saving app/feature on your phone is affecting your Fitbit app.
  4. Also, on an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on.
  5. You can find troubleshooting instructions here.

Let me know how it goes.
