Inspire HR: inaccurate step count on elliptical

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have noticed that starting approximately the beginning of December, my inspire hr has been  inaccurate when comparing steps on fitbit versus strides on an elliptical. I workout somewhere between 75-90 RPM, and have noticed that the fitbit records almost 30% less steps. Prior to December, the fitbit was quite accurate with the number of strides on the elliptical. As for whether the step count is accurate on the track and/or trail...I can test that upon request.

Why December, you ask? The first thing that comes to mind is that I treated myself to a new phone, and during that time, I factory restored the fitbit and set up the fitbit for use with my new phone. Your help in addressing this is greatly appreciated.

@khanguyen It's great to see that you've visited the Fitbit Community!

Let me help you with this. Let me clarify that you aren't actually walking (we both know this but wanted to mention it here) so steps aren't actually being recorded but your effort on the elliptical. That being said, your device will detect the movement on your arm and translate that movement into steps. For example when using the elliptical machine make sure you have the moving bars so your device detects the motion and records the activity itself. For added sensitivity you can try wearing your device on your dominant hand but select that hand as non dominant on the device’s settings to make it more sensitive to movement. Also make sure your hands are moving so the device can properly track your steps.

Let me know how it goes.

These are great suggestions, and sorry my post was too vague: I do make use of the moving bars. For almost the entire year of 2020 and while we've been on covid lockdown, the elliptical has been my primary means of exercise. Up until December, 1 step count on my fitbit did equal one stride on the elliptical.

Perhaps my expectations are not in line with how my fitbit device measures steps, so a better question would be: on an elliptical - and making use of the bars on said elliptical  - what is the expected conversion of steps on a fitbit to strides on an elliptical?
