Inspire HR is tracking too many steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Recently my Inspire HR has become very erratic in recording my daily workout. I do the same workout every day (a bunch of stretches, sit-ups and similar, followed by 10km on a rowing machine).  This has always recorded as between about 4500 and 5000 'steps'.  Just lately the device has become erratic; sometimes recording as normal, other times only counting 600-1000 steps. Any ideas?

Hi there, @hugo_r. Welcome to the Community Forums. Thanks for the details provided in your post about the inconvenience with our Inspire HR. I understand where your concern is coming from.

Do you have another app connected to your Fitbit account that could might be adding more steps? Mobiletrack maybe? Low-power step sensors inside your phone track your steps and send the data to the Fitbit app. We recommend using MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.

Note that adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard.

Fitbit devices have a finely-tuned algorithm for step counting. The algorithm is designed to look for intensity and motion patterns that are most indicative of people walking and running. When working at a desk, cooking, or performing other activities with arm movements, a device on your wrist may add some steps. When you’re doing activities that involve arm movement—such as working or cooking—you often walk a few steps in-between stationary periods as well, so the device tries to give you credit for those steps. For most customers, the number of extra steps added by arm-based movement isn’t significant when compared to your overall stats. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

For additional information, see Does the wrist I wear my device on affect the accuracy? and What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate?

Also, please note for Android users they can't use MobileTrack in addition to a Fitbit device. For more information about MobileTrack, see How do I use Fitbit MobileTrack?

Know that you can negate the extra steps in the Fitbit app. For more information, see: How do I add, edit, or delete Fitbit data and activities?

Hope that helps.

Hi there, @Lee05071974. Thanks for stopping by.

Are you using MobileTrack? If so, please take the information I've shared here into consideration. If you're not sure if MobileTrack might be causing this issue, I'd suggest trying to avoid using MobileTrack for a few days to see if the accuracy of your Fitbit device improves.

Hope this helps.

Your having modified the subject of my question leads me to believe that you have misunderstood what it was all about. As far as my daily workout is concerned, I really don't care much about the number of steps recorded, I just want to know why it is so inconsistent, as this makes it hard to trust any of the data coming from this device. I set my device to record simply as 'Workout', and do the same routine every day. The last few days' results have shown the number of steps as 5206, 1047, 3304, 879, 961, 4154.

I don't use MobileTrack.
