Inspire HR not recording hikes

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've got a Fitbit Inspire HR, and have noticed it's not properly registering hikes that I'm doing.  I went mountain climbing at the weekend and it registered the first 45 minutes and the last 76 minutes on the Track Exercise but I was on the go for 5 hours. For most of it it said "out of range", but my heart rate was well above my resting heart rate so it should have registered.

It seems to register general walking okay but not hiking. I went climbing the previous weekend too and it logged part of my exercise as swimming cause I was walking in the rain!

I have noticed some users have had issues with hiking before, I was just wondering if there was any solution to this? I contacted fitbit support but all they could suggest was that my heart rate was lower than my resting heart rate and it didn't register but I can assure it was not! I'd just like to see it regsiter properly on my track exercise.

Any ideas are greatly welcome!

@Debz86 It's great to see you in the Community!

Let me help you with your Inspire HR not recording the entirety of your hikes. How are you recording these activities (via the tracker, using the app or using Connected GPS between your tracker and your Fitbit app)? It seems that you are using Connected GPS in this case. I suggest you clear the link between your phone and your tracker by doing the following:

  1. Go to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there.
  2. Restart your phone and restart your device
  3. Check that no battery saving app/feature on your phone is affecting your Fitbit app.
  4. Also, on an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on.
  5. You can find troubleshooting instructions here.

If this is the case I would also suggest you don't use Connected GPS and only use your tracker to track your hike (you should still get heart rate data, distance and calories).

Let me know how it goes.

Okay, thanks for the advice!

I'll try that the next time I'm out and see if it works.

my Inspire HR couldn't connect to Exercise i.e. Hike, Walk, Bike etc.  I tried to restart my mobile, reconnect Inspire HR, restart the app on mobile, but still not able to connect to the device when I wanted to track my hike, walk and bike.

I had similar issues with APP re: recording my hike yesterday! I opened the app, exercise, selected hike, and confirmed the hike was recording. I was told by support via Twitter that bc I stopped moving within the first 10 minutes, the App shut down. Excuse me?

If I start it manually, shouldn’t it continue until I stop it? Also, I don’t have any auto-recognition enabled sooo, why did the App fail?
This is the second time my exercise and trail has failed to register. It tracks the steps, heart rate, distance, but if I have to add the exercise sessions manually, how is this different from using a notebook?

If these issues continue, I will be looking for a much simpler device and app.
