Inspire HR not turning on after swimming

Hey all

I wonder if anyone can help! I’ve had my Inspire HR for a few months and used it for the first time swimming yesterday after much debate and googling that I could indeed track swimming! Alas it had a couple of random flashes of various screens displayed the battery sign and then died. I’ve tried plugging it in to the charger and it’s not doing anything at all? Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi @AnnaBut well it should be OK in the water (mine is!). But it sounds like yours has died, sadly. I have flagged a moderator to come and help you.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @AnnaBut.

I'm sorry to hear that your Fitbit Inspire HR is not turning on after swimming. Thank you for plugging it in before contacting us. Your device is swim-proof in a lake, pool, or ocean (up to 50 meters), so you shouldn't experience any inconvenience after a swim session.

I would recommend performing a restart by following these steps.

You can find more information about how to track swimming on this article.

Thank you for your support @NellyG.

Same problem.  Went swimming for the first time with Inspire HR and it quit.  No lights, will not start.  Totally dead.  Tried charging, nothing.  Tried doing the hard reset,  Nothing.  Is there anything else to try or is it junk?

I called FitBit. Went over some things with them including when and where I purchased it. They replaced it free of any charges. I will not wear the new one swimming!

Oh dear!  I was planning to swim with my FitBit for the first time today after researching whether I could. I had finally (nervously) decided to give it a try.

Now I see this thread and am back to thinking I’d better not.

It would have been helpful if some more explanation had been provided as to why the FitBits in this thread fritzed.  As it is, it sounds like swimming is not a good idea with the Inspire HR. 🤷‍:female_sign:

Same issue.  I’ve had mine for about.2 years and never swim or shower with it.  A few days ago, I forgot to take it off and swam with it.  Done.  I haven’t contacted customer service yet but since it’s 2 years old, I’m suspecting that they won’t even give me a discount on a new one.  Will update.

Same issue. This week was the first time I’d ever worn it swimming. I put it on charge when I got home and it scrolled through all the options and updated with the app but then stopped working completely. When I tried to reboot it I got the smiley face but no vibration. Now it’s totally dead. Mine’s over two years old so I don’t even think it’s worth contacting customer services but it’s disappointing that they claim it’s water resistant when so many customers have experienced this issue and clearly it isn’t!!!

I contacted them earlier today and they gave me a 35% discount code for a new one.  I’ll have to see if it’ll be cheaper with the code or at a retail location.  But I’m attached to the Fitbit so will be getting my third one.  I’m in Canada.

Yes, it died after swimming but I charged anyway. It gave me the smiley face and said it was at 89% and then immediately died forever.

Same issue as you and Ellie149 mentioned. Mine is over 2 years old so I don't think warranty is covering it. Could you please tell me to what number did your reach them?

Best Answer

I used Live Chat on the website or app.  I just said it stopped working and explained and they said they’d look into the warranty and send me an email. About 15 minutes later, I received an email saying the warranty had expired but they were giving me a 35% discount code.

Hi AleRey,

If you are in the UK the number is 0344 811 0811. My Fitbit was out of warranty but they offered me 35% discount off a new one but the promotional code isn’t compatible with any other offers. They had a promotion for Mother’s Day offering £30 off the Fitbit Inspire 2, the promotion code reduced the price to £58.50 from the full retails of £89.99. In the event I ordered from Boots at £59.99 and used my reward card. You get 4 points per £1 spent, it’s 1p per point. They offer an additional £10 in points for electrical purchases of specific products over £60 (I ordered Oral B toothbrush heads to qualify). I got an addition £4 in points from my offers on the Boots app. They were also giving a 5% off for spends of £60 or more and 10% off for spends of over £75. There’s free delivery too.

Mine did the same. Totally dead. Tried reinstalling it but you need to input a 4 digit code displayed on the screen, but of course the screen is blank.

I spoke with customer services who offered me a discount on a new fitbit. Why should I ever want to buy another when the first did not comply with what was advertised. Its obviously not waterproof and I should get my money back for false advertising.  Slim chance of that happening.
