Inspire HR steps don’t tie to distance

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Inspire H/R has recently started to show odd numbers for my steps (not enough) while the km seem ok. E g today I see for my walk 4.9 km with 3600 steps which means I supposedly covered 1.4 m with every step while it is 0.8 m.

I tried refreshing then reloading the app without any change. What else can I do?

It’s good to see you in the community, @Loerrach.

Thanks for the details shared in your post. I understand your concern and appreciate your efforts to resolve this. If you feel that your step count and distance are inaccurate, confirm the following are correct in the Fitbit app:

Fitbit devices calculate distance by multiplying your walking steps and walking stride length. Similarly, your running steps are multiplied by your running stride length. Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter than average. For more information, see How does my Fitbit device calculate my daily activity?

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback, Liliya. Unfortunately this didn’t help me. I always were my watch on the same arm which is the one in the profile and my height is set were it always has been when the steps were counted correctly in the past.

I have watched things more closely over the last days and saw this:
Typically I have a 1.3 ratio of steps to km which I still see during my regular activities during the day. What is all of a sudden off is the count during my exercise, typically a half-hour power walk. I have not knowingly changed the way I walk or move my arms but I started to carry weights with me during my walks - could that for some odd reason habe an impact? I still move the arms in the same rhythm as before.

I am confused. 🙂 Andrea

Thank you for your reply, @Loerrach.

I understand how you are feeling about this situation and thank you for providing the additional details. Fitbit devices use a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. This sensor allows your device to determine the frequency, duration, intensity, and patterns of your movement. Since you're carrying weights with you during your walks, it could affect your arm movements, even if you're not noticing it, and be the reason of the difference you see. Have you tried to walk without the weights to confirm that?

Actually I did, Liliya, over the last 2 days and the measurements came back correctly. So I guess it is the weights.

i will play with it a bit more and see with more focus in my arm movements I can get to the point where I can use the weights and get the correct results shown.

Thanks, Andrea
