Recently my fitbit hr showed 22815 steps for the day. In reality I did about 3000. When I checked when the large number was recorded I found they were almost all done in a 15min time period. I am a healthy 75 year old but not quite that fit!.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION
I removed the Fitbit app from my android phone, then reinstalled it from Playstore. After that it was all good without the annoying huge step count showing on the Fitbit homepage.!

Hi @zzzmuzz, welcome to our Fitbit Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Inspire HR tracked a huge amount of extra steps. I totally understand how you feel. However, I'll be glad to help you with this issue.
Please restart your Inspire HR as described in this help article. After this, check out this help page, which explains why your Fitbit device may track extra steps.
Finally, monitor your Inspire HR and see if it stops tracking extra steps.
Keep me posted on the outcome.

Thank you for replying. I reset my Fitbit a few days ago and have been checking it daily. This morning on waking up it was showing 28,388 steps. For a brief moment it flashed up a much lower number (about 50), but then reverted to the large number. On other days something similar has happened.
(I am very familiar with the reset process as I have done it various times previously on my Fitbit Inspire HR).

To Clarify: The step count on the actual Fitbit seem correct. The errors noted above are on the app which is running on android.

Do you have any other suggestions. Every day it is like a cumulative total shows on the front of the app. eg today about 84000. This is not just a matter of counting extra steps. There is an issue here! Should I do a complete reset from the app "Setup a Device"?
You asked me to keep you posted, however when I uploaded the front page of the app to show the issue, it was removed?

Well, a temporary solution only as it happened. This morning I awoke to find 0 steps then at the first and subsequent refreshes the app showed over 7500 steps. Half an hour later I checked what the watch was showing and it was registering about 8000 steps! Yes I can keep reinstalling the app but surely this should not be necessary.
Given that the numbers come up on the watch as well as the app seems to show that the issue is with the watch itself?
Keen to get some feedback.
