Fitbit Update 09/3/2020: Thank you all for your participation in this thread. Update 8/20/20: The Inspire firmware release of 1.88.11 should now be available to all customers today. If you have any difficulty updating, make sure you are following the directions in this article, and then provide as many specific details as possible in your post so that we can assist. Please keep this thread on-topic by only providing feedback after updating your Firmware to 1.88.11.

We've begun releasing new firmware (1.88.11) for Inspire/Inspire HR to customers. This is a progressive rollout which means everyone will receive it at different stages until it has been completely released to all users. We roll out releases in phases as a cautionary measure so that we can monitor performance closely and make adjustments if needed.

*Firmware releases are not distributed based on region or location and can reach anyone no matter where you reside. We do not recommend performing a factory reset to force the update to your device as your data will be lost and you may not get the update. Please be patient and wait until you see the update banner inside of the Fitbit app to begin the firmware download.

This update ruined my device! It was working perfectly fine until I did the update this week. Now I have a completely blank display that won't restart or even show charging. Just spent 30 minutes in a chat with customer service telling me there's nothing that can be done to fix it. And since I'm outside of the 1 year warranty, I have to buy a new one. Total fraud! How can a company push a firmware update that ruins my device and now tells me I have to buy a new one. Of course they don't sell the Inspire HR anymore so I have to spend more money to move up to a charge. Oh but they'll send me a 35% off coupon. No thank you. I've been a loyal customer for years! I don't know that I want to continue if this is what will happen every time they change their device line up. I should have remembered when my Alta had a firmware update, it no longer worked. And they were no longer selling that same device. I'm so disappointed by the FitBit company and their shady "firmware update" practices.

I don't know what is wrong with Fitbit now.  Are they under new owners or new management?

They have to know there are major problems with this update.  They need to remove it and not release another one until it works right.

Chat was of no help to me with the problems on my Inspire HR; they just blamed my iPhone and my tablet, which was absurd because both would sync every day or so.  And the sleep icon on my device has always been grayed out, which has nothing to do with my phone and tablet.  I've tried all the trouble-shooting tips multiple times and they don't work.  They finally removed one of my posts that complained about multiple issues.

I've learned to live with the things that don't work on my tracker and with the infrequent syncing no matter what I do.  The data does seem to be accurate when I can finally see it on my app, after it decides to sync.

I keep hoping to come back here and find out they've fixed the update, but obviously they still have not.

I will not update my device because I'm afraid the things that do work now won't work after the update.

Fitbit, please get your act together.

I just did another run this morning, and yes it's still cutting corners. My other metrics are working fine though. I did notice that there was several vibrations right when the run started. I didn't look at it right away to confirm what it was doing but Ic an only assume it was telling me it was messing up.

I also updated my Inspire fitbit while I was on vacation. All went well got the smiley face and then nothing. Will call customer service in the morning but from what everyone is saying they can do nothing. Just tried again got smiley face and then blank screen and this device is just over a year old.

I have had that inspire HR since January and Since updating my firmware yesterday my battery now drains every three hours and my heart rate setting is on but it’s not tracking my heart rate at all! I tried resetting it and that didn’t fix the problem!

Edit: My green light isn’t on anymore as well!

Hello everyone thank you for sharing your inquiries and the issues you are having with your Inspire devices.

@Asops If you are having issues with the heart rate reading then I suggest you clean the back of your device with cotton and rubbing alcohol and restart it. Turn the heart rate off, save and sync then turn it on save and sync again. Also check these tips to improve the heart rate reading on your device.

For the GPS signal and syncing issues I would like to try clearing the link the between your phone and your tracker by doing the following:

  1. Go to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there.
  2. Restart your phone and restart your device
  3. Check that no battery saving app/feature on your phone is affecting your Fitbit app.
  4. Also, on an Android device, check that your app has the necessary permissions (settings > apps > Fitbit > permissions) and make sure bluetooth and location services (GPS) are on.
  5. You can find troubleshooting instructions here for syncing and here for GPS.

@Susiebee05 this is odd as the tracker is showing the correct data. This must be an issue with the app itself so log out from the Fitbit app, restart your phone and log back in.

@Jce223 besides the tips for the heart rate reading I would like to help you with your activity detection. Your device detects activities based on the motion on your arm. The automatic detection is a feature called SmartTrack. For example when using the elliptical machine make sure you have the moving bars so your device detects the motion and records the activity itself, once an Elliptical activity is saved on your account it should show on the Recent Exercise area. If your heart rate is high but there isn't much motion (yoga, weight lifting, etc.) then these activities will be difficult to be detected by your device. Still you can manually log your activity so you have a record on your account or use the activity mode on the device itself.

@MG_DS_GOD I have checked and could see that Support confirmed the receipt of your package so keep working with them to solve this.

@jmad364 thank you for troubleshooting this issue. Please try changing the clock face and see how it responds to this. Also thank you for reaching out to our Support team. Support does follow the guidelines described in the warranty so if your device is outside the warranty period they won't be able to replace it. This is why they offer a discount to help customers in this situation. Still thank you for sharing your feedback.

@Robinbyrd you can try restarting your tracker and if it is syncing then try changing the clock face (both instructions found above).

Let me know how it goes.

I am still having trouble with the new firmware. After I was sent a new device it forced me to update, and since the heart rate function does not work properly while I exercise. It will just stop reading my heart rate entirely or give me an incredibly inaccurate/illogical number. I bike ride long distances and will check my inspire to see it giving me a reading of 68 bpm meanwhile I’m breathless and had just gone up a hill. A separate heart rate tracking app I have on my phone gave me a reading of 138 bpm while simultaneously the Fitbit was giving me 61 bpm. This discrepancy has caused the other numbers such as total calories burned to be off by I don’t know how much. Is there an option to rollback this update? Please

I've been fortunate that my Inspire HR survived this update.  And I agree totally on the battery/time screen being an irritating duplication of other screens on the fitbit.  I use mine for heart rate, but now I have to scroll pass the time twice.  I know that I can't remove it and there are not other posts that have any advise on this so I want to know where to give this feedback that it isn't a good feature. Who thought that seeing the time twice while scrolling was useful? I would give up the customizable clock face to avoid have this time duplication.

So I deleted the notification app, shut off GPS and turned off the automatic light when you move your arm and it went from 3hrs to about 10 hours in between charges which is still not even close to the 3 days it used to last before the update.

I didn’t clean it, but after the last charge the green lights came on again and the HR monitor is on again and not greyed out. I did turn it off and sync and then on and sync about 5 times. Not sure if that’s what did the trick. I cleaned it after that but the battery life is still garbage.

I never had a GPS issue so that doesn’t apply to me.

HI. My fitbit Inspire HR doesn't not work at all. I have charged it, tried to sync but nothing works. Followed multiple instructions. No green light, no vibrating, no sync to phone app. I tried to change the clock but because the fitbit wont turn on it can't be found. I removed the device from the app and wanted to reinstall but since it doesn't turn on I can't do this.  My fitbit worked until the update installed and since then nothing, now I don't know whether to invest in another fitbit or go a different route. I was signed up to be in the Heart program which is important but now I can't to that all because of the update. This really is ridiculous I shouldn't have installed the update. I doubt if Fitbit will send me a new one since I bought it in May 2019. I wore it everyday and now gone.

Hello everyone.

@Jce223 you can find the heart rate settings in the settings are on your tracker as stated in the tracker's manual. We also have a set of Community guidelines so I ask to please follow them when posting here.

@SunsetRunner please clean your tracker as explained above. When exercising some users have suggested using a sport band to remove excess sweat as this can affect the heart rate reading. You can read about other factors here.

@RainDiva you can share your idea in our Feature Suggestions board. Search for the idea first to see if one already exists so you can add your vote. The more votes an idea gets the more likely the developers will try to implement it.

@Susiebee05 happy to hear that the suggestions help you!

@Asops I noticed that you already have a ticket with our Support team so keep working with them to find a solution.

@Robinbyrd thank you for sharing what you did to troubleshoot this issue. Since the issue persists I have created a ticket so our Support team can further assist you via email.

@Engelien please try the suggestion in my previous posts.

I'll be around.

@AlvaroFitbit  I’ve read that article and I’ve cleaned the back of the tracker. I never had any problems until this update. I’ve followed every troubleshooting tip offered over and over again. There are issues with this update that multiple people are facing. Yes or no will there be a fix or can we rollback the update?

Sonce the update I can no longer wake up the fitbit by turning my wrist. Occasionally before the update I'd have to move my wrist really hard but no luck here, and the settings for it are no longer on my device. How do I fix it?

Best Answer

Go to your battery screen and turn the little light bulb thingy at the bottom on

The screen that shows the battery just shows the time, day and date. no lightbulb. That  used to be what I'd press in the settings section. that's so weird!
