Inspire does not track miles in an indoor fitness track

I've been walking all summer either outside or at the mall and steps/miles have been on point.  I've started walking on an indoor fitness track where 12 laps = 1 mile, but my fitbit records a mile after 4 laps, giving me a 9 minute mile!!  Impossible!!  I need mileage tracking for virtual races.  I do have GPS on, is there some other way to track miles/steps in an indoor facility.

If you do not use phone's GPS, it will calculate distance as number of steps times stride length.  Fitbit sets a default stride length based on your physical measurements, but you can fine-tune that.  It should be close enough for virtual races, but since you do know exact distances, you could adjust stride length to get it very close after a few walks.

See:

How do I measure and adjust stride length for my Fitbit device?

GPS is unreliable indoors, depending on building.  It sounds like it did work at your mall but not at the gym.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
