Inspire is not longer tracking my sleep

I have a new Inspire and everything was fine for 12 days and then the sleep tracker stopped working. I changed the sensitivity to normal as this seemed to work for another user but still nothing.  Any ideas?

Hi @Hockeyump welcome to the Community Forums. I'll be glad to help you with the sleep option on your Inspire.

Thanks for reporting the issues with your Inspire not tracking sleep. I'd like to mention that all of our wrist-based devices automatically detect your sleep, meaning you just need to wear your tracker or watch to bed. Autodetection is based on your movement. When you haven’t moved for about an hour, your device assumes that you’re asleep.

Additional data such as the length of time your movements are indicative of sleep behavior (such as rolling over) help confirm that you’re asleep. Morning movement tells your tracker that you’re awake. If you’re not moving but not asleep for long periods of time it’s possible for your device to falsely record sleep, in which case you can delete the sleep log from your history.

If you're still not getting your sleep information on the Fitbit App, please confirm that your Inspire has synced with your mobile or syncing device. You can also restart your Fitbit and check the sensitivity of your Fitbit.

Your device's setting can record your sleep in either "sensitive" mode for extremely detailed sleep reporting or "normal" mode for a more basic idea of your sleep patterns. Note that if you use a Fitbit device with heart-rate tracking to detect your sleep stages, this setting doesn't apply.

  • The normal setting counts significant movements as being awake (such as rolling over) and is appropriate for most users.
  • The sensitive setting will cause your device to record nearly all movements as time spent restless or awake. This setting may be helpful for users who wake up feeling tired even though their sleep history shows sufficient rest.

If you use the Fitbit app for Android you must change your sleep sensitivity setting on fitbit.com.

Some users have reported better sleep tracking when using the option "on clip" instead of "on wrist", you can find the instructions on how to do so in the manual page 12 and 18.

Keep me posted.

Hi Thanks for your reply.

The sleep tracker worked fine for 12 days and then nothing recorded on the
App despite it syncing properly with all 'awake' movement being recorded and
displayed. Initially the sleep mode was set as 'sensitive' and when it
stopped recording I changed the mode to 'normal' but that did not make any
difference. I made this change through fitbit.com

I do not wish to change to 'on clip' to sleep and as it worked fine on my
wrist for the first 12 days I cannot see that is the problem. Is the
product faulty?

Please advise what I should do next?
Regards
Hockeyump

Hello @Hockeyump nice to see you again. Thanks for checking the sensitivity of your Fitbit Inspire HR.

Did you restart your Fitbit? About your inquiry, some users have reported better sleep tracking when using the option "on clip" instead of "on wrist". You can give it a try if you wish if not let me know so I can request a ticket for you. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'll be around.

Hi

Yes, I have changed the sensitivity but it made no difference.

I do not wish to have to convert each night to the 'on clip' so please raise
a ticket.

Many thanks

Hockeyump.

When I switched mine to "on clip" it stopped tracking sleep altogether.  Put it back to the wrist setting and restarted and now, after about a week and a half of wonky sleep readings, it appears to be working, but I'm not holding my breath.

Can you confirm this has been logged with Support please?

Please advise how I report this failure under the guarantee as I have been sold a product that is faulty.  I did wait to upload the latest update but this has had no effect.

My new Inspire is less than a month old also and has stopped tracking sleep despite the restarting a number of times and changing all the settings. I don't think that changing it to clip on every night is a good solution at all.

This is my second Fitbit. I was gifted the Inspire when my Alta stopped working. There is another thread on here I'm in for that and the response has been less than helpful. There isn't anything they seem to be willing to do and for those out of warranty they only offer a 25% discount on a new one. Some people have had theirs replaced but that's still a gamble since the replacement can be just as unreliable as what it's replacing.

Suffice it to say I am pretty mad about this and the only thing that's keeping me using this one instead of just returning it and getting a refund is I want a tracker that works with MyFitnessPal and so far of the more reliable and durable trackers I've found (that cost less, by the way), none sync with MFP. I'm not willing to try another brand that costs as much as Fitbit that doesn't have a better reliability record at this point. I may just end up replacing Fitbit altogether with one that doesn't work with MFP because there's an unreliability issue there as well, but that's another post in another forum.

Have you just installed the Firmware update?  I had to log my sleep manually after that but gave up after a week and stopped manually tracking it.  My sleep wasn't tracked at all (either manually or automatically) for 2 nights then all of a sudden on the third night it started tracking automatically again and it's been fine ever since for me.  My suggestion is to just stop logging your sleep manually altogether and hopefully your Inspire will kick back into doing it automatically again in a few days.

No, I've not done that, nor manually entered my sleep. That it is supposed to do that for me is one of the big reasons I have the device.I don't know how much I actually sleep and it's always far less that I realize so manually entering just defeats the purpose of having and sleeping in the Fitbit. If it doesn't kick back on tonight this will be the fourth night of no sleep tracking despite all the community and fitbit suggested things I've tried.

I haven't even had the thing for a month!

Have a look in your account settings here on the site and check that it's set to your country.  If that's right, set your ideal sleep times (mine is set for getting to bed by 10pm and waking up at 8am for example).  When that's done, check to see which setting it's recording ("normal" or "sensitive") and if it's set to "all day" syncing or if it's set to one of the other options (mine is set to "all day").  Are you wearing your Fitbit on your wrist or your ankle?  Either way, make sure it's on your non-dominant hand/ankle and that it's set to wrist and non-dominant in your account.  If this is a new Fitbit to you then it takes a few days for it to get to know you and finding the right settings for you.  Give it a week to kick fully into action but if it doesn't, request a replacement and start again.

I have the same issue as others in this email chain. My Inspire worked fine for 3 weeks, tracked eep time, restless and awake time, then stopped tracking sleep all together. Ive tried a soft reset, manually tracked sleep, changed the sensitivity, changed the sleep time settings, nothing helps. Each am when I sync, it only shows steps. The days sleep is blank unless I manually enter it, and then it is not tracling restless or awake time.

How low is the battery when you charge it up each time please?  It's just that my Inspire doesn't track my sleep if it goes below 75% which is a bit annoying but has been necessary for me.  Maybe try keeping it topped up to full every couple of days to see if that helps?

I have been having intermittent problems with this fitbit since i got it for my birthday.  It  has never tracked my sleep correctly, the screen goes black for periods of time, and the battery life is not great at all.  I was told to reset my track to fix the problem but no difference.  Very disappointed with this paticular model of fitbit.

Interestingly, When it first stopped tracking sleep the battery was low, so thinking that this might have contributed to this I charge it fully but the issue still remains.

I have the same problem, my inspire HR is not even 2 month-old, track sleep once in a blue moon, no correlation with battery state. I loaded the app again, restated the fitbit, doesn't do anything. Customer services completely hopeless refusing to take responsability at all. Very annoyed.

Welcome to Fitbit, @Krizzot!

Do you wear your HR on your wrist or your ankle?  Dominant or non-dominant side?  Do you wear it all day and night or just while you're awake?  How do you access your app - Windows?  iPhone?  iPad?  Android?  Something else?

It does take a while for the Inspire to work properly, but that's because it's getting to know you and what's normal for you.

How far down do you run the battery before you recharge it?  I've found that mine struggles if it goes below about 60% and sleep is the first thing it stops tracking.  As soon as the battery in your app turns grey, charge your HR up again the same day you notice it... it's every 3-4 days for me.

When/how often do you take your tracker off your wrist/ankle?  Other than to charge it up, the only time I take mine off is to dry it off after a bath or shower... how often do you take yours off?  If you only wear it when you're active then that might be what's going wrong with your HR too, 'cos it hasn't got to know you yet.

Try keeping it on your wrist/ankle 24 hours a day for 2-3 weeks and only take it off to charge/dry it to see if that works for you?

I wear it constantly, except under the shower and recharge daily during my shower. The confusing thing is that it worked fine for a month or so and then stopped while I didn't modify anything. Battery is always 80-90%. I wear it on my non-dominant wrist, as set, and yes indeed I do wear it when I sleep! 😉

Maybe the battery has got itself in a bit of a tizz because you charge it up every day?  Maybe try wearing it constantly (even while you're in the shower - just dry it off after you get out so that it doesn't go wrong and don't press the button while it's wet either) and only charging the battery up when it goes grey in the app (every 2-3 days)?  It seems to work best if it's constantly attached to you other than when it's charging up... it's waterproof as long as you don't press the button on it while it's wet... you can even swim with it as long as you don't press the button while it's wet!

Where did you get your HR from?  How have you contacted support?  By email or phone or live chat?  Maybe try the live chat if you haven't so far?
