Missing steps and active minutes when walking

This is crazy.  Me and my wife have the same type Fitbit, the Inspire.  She is shorter than me but, she doesn't get more steps in when we walk together.  We both wear it on our non-dominate wrist (left).  Today for example.  Mine showed 35 active minutes whereas her showed 14 active minutes.  We both wear it out our left wrist.  I had my left hand in my coat pocket the entire walk.  Her step distance, although it is set right for her, is irrelevant since I still manage to apparently get more steps in even though she she has to be getting more steps than me.   She changed it to the belt clip mode which seemed to have solved the problem but, apparently that isn't the problem.

Hi @JBL1954 nice to see you around. I'll be glad to help you out with your questions about the accuracy of Fitbit devices.

Thank you for sharing all those details on your post. You both did a great job checking the information about how to wear your Fitbit devices. Since we use height to estimate your walking and running stride lengths, you may want to measure and manually adjust these values if your legs are longer or shorter as it is in the case of your wife. For more information, see Can I change my stride length in my Fitbit account?

If you're doing activities in the same way, basically same intensity and duration, your Active Minutes shouldn't vary a lot. Check this information in regards of how Active Minutes are gain and follow these steps:

  1. Force quit the App and turn off your phone
  2. Open Fitbit App, go to Account (upper right corner) > Delete Fitbit tracker from the Account
  3. Open the Bluetooth Setting on your phone and delete Fitbit Inspire HR from there too
  4. Reboot Bluetooth to make sure your Fitbit is not there
  5. Restart your Fitbit a couple of times and Access back to Fitbit App > Account to set up your Fitbit tracker back

Also I would recommend checking the information for previous activities during different days, to see exactly what are the activities that are giving you Active Minutes. You can go to the Fibit.com Dashboard on the computer or on the browser in your phone, click on Log > Activities > Choose the date and choose to see calories.

Your Active Minutes will be shown with the calories in high intensity level as green lines, as you can see in the picture. Moderate intensity level are shown in yellow lines.

Thanks for responding.  First off the Fitbit app is only showing what her actual fitbit is showing so adjusting the stride length and height really won't do anything.  It's not the distance or active time that's the issue it's the fact that the fitbit in her case isn't even recording the fact that she is even taking steps.  Besides we've already checked and set those so they are correct.  She's found that when she carries the fitbit in her pocket it is more accurate then when she wears it on her wrist.  And also when she wears in on her wrist, setting it for clip instead of wrist makes a difference also.  Bottom line for whatever reason it's not tracking her steps.
