Multiple trackers on same account

Hello to the community!

i have a question concerning linking several devices to one Fitbit account. I know it’s been possible to use several fitbits on one account (for daily use and workouts). With Versa and Charge 3 it changed coz they seem to have too similar OS. I was exited therefore to see a new slim tracker - Inspire - but when I chose to set up a new device the app only gave me the option to switch from Versa to Inspire 😞. So does it mean these two are not compatible or does Fitbit still plan at some point to allow the use of both?

I have an old app version that allows it and I don’t update it

I can only connect one tracker at a time. You are lucky to have an older version that allows it.

Hi, @SunsetRunner , just FYI, once you have added the Inspire HR using the older app version, you can then update the app without losing the Inspire HR.

I should probably add that this work around is not recommended by Fitbit, as they have not confirmed that all aspects work.

@SunsetRunner , you can probably find an older version of the app on the internet.

I wish I had seen this thread before I bought my Inspire HR.

I get that there are technical limitations (I work in software development), but this should have been a priority to solve way back when the Versa was released and it became possible for users to have more than one Fitbit OS watch. And it really needs to get solved quick now that less expensive trackers like the Inspire HR are considered smartwatches and more and more people are going to get more than one.

I also don't think we should call this thread "solved" since the underlying problem (can't link multiple, current Fitbit products to a single account) is not "solved" until it is supported by Fitbit.

Anyway, in the mean time I can just unlink/relink my devices as needed...so it's not a dealbreaker...but it is pretty annoying and should not be necessary.

I completely agree with your response. I, too, link and unlink my Fitbit devices as needed. It is truly annoying and I would not have purchased both the Fitbit Inspire and the Charge 3 had I known I would have to keep linking and unlinking them. I also agree that this issue has not be solved. Hopefully, Fitbit will find a way to resolve this issue. Thanks!

this problem with being unable to have 2 different smart watches on the same account being not valid as been going on for almost a year. Apparently they are not to concerned with taking care of this problem.

what a drag.

Fully agree . Seems they don't care. I will not buy a Fitbit tracker this is solved. Hope many will do the same.

They won't be concerned nor do anything about this issue until it hits them
in the pocketbook. This is the last Fitbit that I will buy because of their
lack of concern.

I’m with you. They have been saying for a year that they would do something about this but radio silence. This really annoys a lot of users and potential buyers!!!!

I am so frustrated. I did not see this thread and I just got the inspire hr. I have a versa for daily wear but it's too big to sleep. Since Fitbit won't explore making a ring (I've posted about that) which would be amazing, I bought this so it would be more comfortable to sleep and make a good alternative to my versa. However, now I can't link it with my account without kicking my versa off. What total garbage. I am so frustrated.

Hopefully, you'll be able to return your Inspire for a refund as it seems unlikely that things will change in the short term

I just chatted with Fitbit Customer Support about this. The Fitbit representative didn't know about this issue and tried for 30 minutes to make it work before finding some documentation that says the Inspire HR won't work with a Versa on the same account. I would think information like that would be readily available to both the Fitbit representatives and the consumer. I'll just have to return the Inspire HR and find an Alta HR on eBay as my second tracker when the battery is charging on the Versa.

It’s been many months since this was first posted, does anyone know if Fitbit are actually working to make these devices compatible? I’ve just bought an Inspire after my One finally died, but had no idea I couldn’t use it together with my Charge 3. My only option is to unpair/re-pair every time I want to switch between them, which is pretty tedious. I would’ve thought it would be in Fitbit’s best interests to keep loyal customers with multiple devices happy, rather than driving us away.

I just discovered this problem, how stupid. Fitbit should get it sorted.

I have a Fitbit Blaze and was trying to add a Inspire to place in my pocket to be more accurate with my steps. I work as a nurse and push a cart all day and only half my steps get counted. I tried using it today and lost half my steps when it synced. It synced to my blaze steps instead of taking the higher number. You no longer have a Fitbit that is made for the pocket any longer. So how can I make it to count my steps and not take them away?

Hi, @LenaRN , yu have a somewhat different issue from many of the posters on this thread.

The Blaze and the Inspire are completely compatible and you can have both on the same account.  You should be able to sync between them, wearing your Inspire in your pocket, on the clip, etc while at work, and your Blaze at home.

What you describe - losing steps - does occasionally happen, unfortunately, but it should not, generally speaking.

The best way of avoiding losing steps is to make sure that you sync BOTH trackers before you switch, and, ideally, make sure that the steps are also registered on both trackers (not just your account) before you switch.  Sometimes this takes a few extra minutes while the trackers sync, back and forth - that’s the Fitbit program collecting information between the trackers, collating the different info, reconciling the time and updating your account.  It’s pretty quick, but sometimes it can take a few extra minutes...

So, just for example, suppose you are on a late shift.  You wear your Blaze in the morning and have a brisk walk.  Your Blaze shows 5000 steps.

You are getting ready for work, can’t wear a wrist Fitbit, and want to switch to your Inspire.  So you sync your Blaze to your Fitbit account, and now your account also shows 5000 steps.

You pick up your Inspire to clip into your pocket or bra or whatever.  Your Inspire shows 0 steps, because you have not yet used it today...  To make sure you don’t lose steps, you should now sync your Inspire as well, until it shows the same steps on your Inspire as on your account.

Once your Blaze, your account, AND your Inspire all agree your step number (meaning it’s all synced and updated), then you can switch with no worries.

But sometimes Fitbits are annoying, and refuse to sync and update - we’ve all experienced that!  Even so, mostly you will be okay, if you have synced your Blaze and tried to sync your Inspire, even if it does not update... I have worked with multiple trackers on the same account and only occasionally does it go totally wrong.  Almost always, as long as you attempt a sync for both Fitbits before switching it will work well.  My experience is that occasionally I might lose, or gain 100-200 steps, at most during the data reconcilliation - since that represents about 2 minutes walking, I don’t worry too much.

The takeaway tip is sync before you switch, and you should be fine.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.  Welcome to the forums!
