Multiple trackers on same account

Hello to the community!

i have a question concerning linking several devices to one Fitbit account. I know it’s been possible to use several fitbits on one account (for daily use and workouts). With Versa and Charge 3 it changed coz they seem to have too similar OS. I was exited therefore to see a new slim tracker - Inspire - but when I chose to set up a new device the app only gave me the option to switch from Versa to Inspire 😞. So does it mean these two are not compatible or does Fitbit still plan at some point to allow the use of both?

In that case, @20Gugah20 the support person probably walked you thru removing the Inspire from your account. You would not have been able to add the Versa Lite to your account if the Inspire was on it. The only other thing I would suggest is to open the Bluetooth settings on your phone. If the Inspire is still listed, give the command to Forget it. That should do it. Enjoy your Versa Lite! I really like that device.

I didn't realize that you couldn't have two trackers that use gallery on the same account until after I'd purchased an Inspire HR and tried to add it.  I wanted something smaller and lighter to wear on my right wrist for those times I want to wear a wristwatch on my left (I'm kind of a gadget nut, and in addition to the Versa have a Charge 2, Charge HR (my first Fitbit!) and a Blaze on the account).  Since I have a Versa on the account, of course I couldn't add the Inspire without giving up the Versa, which I don't want to do - if I've gotta choose, the Versa wins.  The only way to have both is to delete one tracker and add the other each time I want to switch.  Too much hassle!.  So I reluctantly returned the Inspire, and went shopping for an Alta HR - lightweight, unobtrusive, just what I need.  Not real easy to find these days!  Finally found one on Craig's list, bought it, and my problem is solved - for now.

But hey Fitbit, I'd probably buy more of your new gadgets if you can set things up to have more than one on the account at the same time.  Any chance you're working on this?

If I would know this I wouldn't buy Versa 2. Fitbit please FIX THIS!

I used to be able to have my Inspire and Blaze connected to one account. It was great. Then the Blaze finally died and I replaced it with a Charge 3. I had no idea that having both would now be a problem. I do not use or appreciate notifications on my trackers. How can I get to an older version of the Fitbit app on my iPhone SE (2nd Ed) to make them work? I also don't appreciate all the pop-up messages in the latest Fitbit Apps.

Best Answer

It's not the fitbit app, it's the tracker @kdau .  I suggest you find another Blaze on Amazon, eBay or Craig's list.  Too bad Fitbit doesn't sell them anymore. (Charge 2 and Alta would also work on the same account as your Charge 3).

Best Answer

@kdau there isn’t a solution for the iOS app, however, if you can borrow someone’s Android phone and download the Fitbit app version 2.81 (you can find this on the internet) you will be able to install both the Charge 3 and the Inspire on the same account.  Once installed you can sync normally with your iPhone.

Fitbit does not endorse this “solution” because it does have some limitations.  My experience with using Charge 3 and Inspire HR on the same account (which I did for many months) is that it interfered to some extent with notifications.  Only the Charge 3 could get the notifications (none could be received on the Inspire and this was true even with the Charge 3 entirely out of range.  So there is that downside.  I did not discover any other problems.  (Btw, as soon as I removed the Charge 3 the Inspire got notifications again so no permanent harm was done.)

As for app notifications you can select what you want to receive.  On the app go to the account screen (click on the person icon top left) and scroll down to “notifications” under privacy and security and turn off any that you do not wish to receive.

I hope this helps!

I had a charge 2 and inspire hr set up on my account and I loved it. I would run one for a couple days and then swap them out while charging.

I cracked the face on the charge 2 and so replaced it with a charge 3. Now I can only have one device! Disaster! I keep running around without any fitbit because the one I have active is charging.

can we please set up 2 devices with the charge 3?

How did you set them up?  I am unable to do so.

Update: As of November 2020, you can NO LONGER CONNECT MULTIPLE DEVICES... even in the "smartwatch" and "tracker" arrangement.

For a long time, it was possible to connect 2 Fitbit devices to the same account. I had a combination of Surge, Charge, Charge 2, and Versa all connected simultaneously. Then it became impossible to connect a two "smartwatches" at the same time, but you could still connect a "smartwatch" and a "tracker" simultaneously. That allowed you to connect the Charge 2, Inspire or Inspire HR, and the Surge (which was classed as a tracker) with a Versa, Charge 4, or Inspire 2... so long as you only had 1 tracker and 1 smartwatch. As of Nov 2020, Fitbit says that it won't support multiple fitbit devices at all.

It seems like you are able to continue to keep old, working "tracker" devices connected if they were already set-up, but adding any new devices forces you to remove any other non-tracker devices. Based on what is currently for sale by Fitbit, there is no possible combination of devices that can be added together for the same user. A person can add the Ace (for children), but it's not integrated into the user's data.

I encourage everyone to reach out to Fitbit to advocate for a change that will bring the two device approach back.

You say as of November 2020.. so this will never be a possibility? I am so annoyed because now I have to choose between my versa and charge 3..I can keep my charge 2 and alta hr on the account but now either the versa or the charge 3 sits neglected in a drawer.. how do we reach out to them if they have already decided not to connect multiple devices? and I am seeing constant ads for the versa 3 and the sense.. @LizzyFitbit I won't buy another fitbit, just wait until they all die and move on to another brand.

@mchili - You ask - “You say as of November 2020.. so this will never be a possibility?”

No, this does not mean it will never be possible. It is just not possible at this time due to hardware/software limitations. It is to Fitbit’s advantage to allow users to maintain as many devices as they want. They are working on it but there it no estimated release date yet.

@mchiliI opened a suggestion in the Fitbit feature suggestion that asked for the feature to be restored. You could start by voting that feature suggestion "up" so that it gains more attention at Fitbit. Even if you don't intend to stay with Fitbit, I think it would be helpful for the rest of us.

I just went out and bought an Inspire2, as my Inspire HR is losing battery life, and I find that I have to remove the HR to add the 2. I was hoping to use the Inspire HR while the Inspire2 was charging. I'm sick of this. It's been going on for years. I'm going to switch to a competitor I've researched after this one wears out. We've been asking for MAC addresses for years so we can have multiple devices the same on our accounts, and they ignore us. I think they need to earn brand loyalty, and they don't seem to give a crap.

Nothing is so smiple it can't be messed up *Inspire2 - InspireHR - Alta - Flex2 - Charge 5 - Luxe

What shame. I am sure that there is some expense to having 2 devices on the
same account. The C.e.o. needed a raise.
Which is fine with me. I have been a member of the fitbit community for
over 5 years. My next choice for a tracker will not be a fitbit.
That is the ultimate statement a devoted customer can make.

"I'm sick of this. It's been going on for years. I'm going to switch to a competitor I've researched after this one wears out".  Me too, I'm outta here. And it's a shame because the app/interface/info presentation is great, I think.  Fitbit user since 2014. I did buy an Inspire 2, before learning about this "mess", but it hasn't arrived yet. I will be returning it, and when Versa wears out .....time to move on...

Yes, it has been years, and promises unfulfilled that they would resolve the issue.
