I’m new to Fitbit, my daughter has just bought an Inspire, and I can’t work out how to set it up for her as a child when creating a Family account

Hi @Smudger25 welcome to the Forums! Thanks for posting your inquiry here. Thanks for your reply @JohnnyRow.

I know that your daughter has worked a lot for her Fitbit, which is very impressive; but Fitbit created a Fitbit family account and an specific model (Fitbit Ace 2,) to control who your kids connect with in the Fitbit app, and see how active they are each day. You can find all the information here: How do I manage my Fitbit family account? I'm sure she will love the new design and specs.

If she purchased it from Fitbit.com store, you can check the 45 Day Satisfaction Guaranteed Return Policy here. Or you can check with the retailer your options. I hope she has the opportunity to get a Fitbit Ace 2, since she deserves it after all the efforts she's put into it.

The only tracker that be set as a child in a family account is the Ace, and Ace2 when it is released.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thanks for letting me know
I didn't know that there were child specific Fitbits which is very disappointing, especially as my daughter had saved up for ages to get one

This is really a problem for me. My son, now 10, is too big for a child's watch already! The Ace is not an option for us. Please assist with how to set up the Inspire HR for him?

Why can't you set it up as an adult device and just form a group as a family?  That's what my wife and I did and we've never teamed with anyone else, nor have we been asked to.

I'm guessing you and your wife are at least 13 years old, so allowed to have own accounts.

Oh, I did not realize there was an age limit on the accounts.   That would explain it!

There is no logic behind Fitbit’s limitation on models.

We decided to drop the whole brand for another.

What a pity!

This is such a problem. I have the same issue. This is so stupid, a waste of money and so unfair. My daughter has ripped the box open in excitement and now she has to have an account under a false birth date with no parental controls. Not a good experience. Not happy

Yeah my son is so disappointed the only Christmas gift he wanted and he can not even use it! What a waste! I’m sorry for you daughter.

Having same issue. I got the versa and my kids got the hr. I can't connect them to the family portal. I did not want to get the kid one. Why can't I add this

Completely agree - very disappointing and limiting.  Luckily only bought this one product....will switch to something the family can use.

If you want to use fitbit there's absolutely nothing you can do. The only fitbit designed for use by children is the Ace 2. You can lie about the child's age but then what is the point in having one at all if the profile isn't set up correctly. It's disgraceful that fitbit get away with this. It is blatant misdirection and false advertising

Best Answer

ugh - glad to see I’m not the only one who has this issue. I created the profile with me as the guardian and added my child, but now that I have an inspire for her and not an ACE I’m stuck. Can I go back and edit my own original profile and make it her ?
Figures there would be an issue like this for this who don’t want the very childlike device for an older child

The Ace products are not swimproof. Which is specifically the feature that deterred me from them TO an inspire, for my under 13 year old that swims 3 days a week.

Fitbit must be out of touch with 12 year old kids -if they think a 12 year old boy is going to be wearing anything but the real deal. Bought our son a Fitbit charge three - he swims competitively and now told we cannot set it up as he needs a child device. - where was that information at point of purchase!!!

No 12 year old kid wants your ace device- get real- I might get my nine year old daughter to wear it but a 12 year old 0no chance iso disappointing and frustrating as i will now have to create a profile based on a lie
