No longer automatically tracks exercise or sleep

Hello again everyone

I loved my Fitbit until I got the Firmware update at the weekend, but it no longer tracks my sleep or exercise at all any more, I have to do both manually.  I got a message after the update had been installed asking me if I wanted to pair my Fitbit with my mobile device, so I said no 'cos I don't want it on my phone, just on my laptop and since then it hasn't recorded my sleep or exercise.

The pairing after the update is the only thing that's changed, so I'm guessing I should have said 'yes' to the pairing and I've been trying to find a way to do that ever since the weekend and can't find anything.  I've had a look here on the site and it seems a couple of others have had similar problems with the sleep thing, but not the exercising!  Can someone help me pretty please?  The less technical the better 'cos I only know the basics of using technology!

Thank you so much in advance.

No long automatically track excerise or sleep

Sorry I meant to say that my Fitbit inspire HR no longer track exercise or sleep. I urgently need help

I haven't got the HR, but something that seems to have worked for me, so might work for you too, is to attempt to sync it via the app, close the app when the blue progress bar starts to appear, reboot the Inspire 3 or 4 times in quick succession by pressing and holding the button for at least 7 seconds (instead of the 5), keep holding the button for another couple of seconds even though it's vibrated.  If it's anything like mine has just done, it'll show steps etc as 0... don't panic just yet!

Now restart your computer and then start up the app and if it's like mine, you'll get the pairing dialogue box come up which says that it needs to unpair and then re-pair your Fitbit to your computer, click on the yes or OK button and let it do what it needs to do.  When that's finished, attempt to sync it again but let it completely sync this time and there you have it!

I don't know if the sleep works again 'cos I haven't been to sleep since doing it, but I'm assuming it will, but I'll know for sure by the morning.

It's more accurate with the active minutes and steps but still isn't automatically tracking my sleep in the app since the Firmware update last weekend.  It was working wonderfully for tracking my sleep before the update, but not so much my active minutes and steps but now the steps and active minutes are wonderful but the automatic sleep tracking is still non-existant.

Assuming it's still working in January I'll give it a 3 or 4 star review rather than the 5 stars it would have got before the firmware update.

Last chance for my Inspire to get a 5 star review while I'm asleep tonight.

I've set the syncing to "all day" because I noticed that it wasn't counting my steps again.  I switched the slider to "all day" and my steps immediately almost doubled.  I'm gonna give it a week so that it's got a fair chance to log my sleep again but I'm not going to do it manually (like I have done for the last 5 days) - if it tracks my sleep again and keeps working beyond January then it'll get the full 5 stars from me, otherwise it's getting 3 or 4  😁

Wish me and my Inspire luck when I log off tonight! 🤣

Thank you for your quick response. The problem is sorted out and my Fitbit is now tracking my sleep schedule. All I did was go to the dashboard and complete the resetting. I am happy now.

I can't find anywhere on my dashboard to reset it... which bit is it in and did you lose any of your data when you did it please?

Hi @AmandaGeorge and @Ekasekibo. It's nice to see you around the Forums. I'm sorry for the delayed response, and let me help you with your inquires.

Thanks to both of you for troubleshooting your Fitbit devices, as well for sharing other steps that worked for you. Let me share that the prompted to pair your device is displayed so your device can be linked to your phone and receive notifications. However, this option will not affect how your device records your exercises and sleep.

@AmandaGeorge, about your exercises not being automatically detected, I'd recommend to adjust the time set for those activities in the Fitbit app, restart your Inspire and sync it with your account. Make sure your activities are longer than the time set, as well to not stop in the middle so the activity tracking doesn't get interrupted.

Now, regarding your sleep, please give a try to the following steps:

  1. Go to the Fitbit app and tap on your profile's icon.
  2. Scroll down and tap on "Advanced Settings".
  3. Tap on sleep sensitivity and set it to "Normal".
  4. Then wear your Inspire on your other wrist as described in this help article.
  5. Make sure to sleep more than 1 hour and sync your data when you wake up.

I'll be around, keep me posted.

Thank you @LizzyFitbit - it's all working fine again now... now I can't export my data into XLS 🙄 and there are at least 2 others who are having the same problem too (Here) but everything is back to normal with the device now, thankfully  🙂

Hi @AmandaGeorge. I'm glad to see you here again.

That's great news! I'm glad your exercise and sleep are being recorded correctly. Thanks for reporting that you're having issues when exporting data and sharing the link of that topic. This shouldn't be happening and so we can keep our Forums organized, this situation will be addressed in that thread.

Hope to see you more often! 😉

My sleep wasn't logged again last night and my steps count has been less than half of what they should be.  Not happy at all.  I've had it for less than a month and I've had more issues with it than it working.  Not happy that I've spent so much for something that has spent more time going wrong than right.  If it doesn't start tracking my sleep and steps reliably by the weekend it'll be getting a 3 star review from me.
