@c8rolyn   I looked at your profile and see that you joined Fitbit in 2016.  If you used the default setting with your previous Fitbit(s), then there is no reason to change your stride length with your Inspire 2.  Fitbit estimates your average stride length.  But you don't travel that distance every time you go up and down stairs.  Your stride length will change with walking speed.  It will be shorter when you are walking 4 mph than 3 mph.  It will be shorter when you walk up a steep hill.  In short, if you have normal body mechanics for your height, there's no need to adjust your stride length.

If you choose to measure your stride length using a step count and measured distance, then you definitely don't want to do it in 20 steps or all on a flat surface.  You need to use a longer distance, go up and down hills, and vary your speed.  Chances are, you will come up with Fitbit's estimate.

Agree with answer by @SunsetRunner , but also be aware that Fitbit takes into account your personal data (height, sex, age, etc) in setting your default stride length, so it might not necessarily be off as much as you expect just because you are a small person.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.
