Over counting steps causing calories burned and distance

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Step Counter has counted over 2000 steps from sitting at my desk.  I chatted with tech support for about 30 minutes with no resolution to problem.  Tech support said that the product is possibly recording steps from typing(not joking).  According to the device i have burned over 1500 calories and covered 1.35 miles without breaking a sweat and all while sitting at my desk typing.  Makes me wonder if the sleep tracker and heart rate monitor are also inaccurate.  I will exchange for a new device.  If problem continues, i will return it.  After speaking to tech support, i am not confident this issue will get fixed.

I have experienced the exact same problem. Getting all sorts of awards for completing 15,000 steps when doing normal daily routines.  No exercise at all .. no walking.  I returned? Ordered another, same problem.  I contacted customer support who had me walk 100 steps and Fitbit recorded 540.  Then told me there’s s known problem with device and to please bd patient. I would be notified then update was available.  No, I will return.  Any recommendations on which one to get?

This thread started back in March.  My dad got me the FitBit for my birthday and it has been jacked up since, over-counting steps. What is the proper process to return the device.  Obviously a fix has not come about in over 3 months and more and more people are having issues! I would like to return the device and get a refund, what do I need to do?

I bought via amazon so just returned there. Not sure if fitbits come with
guarantee ... if so, they should refund or exchange. DON’T get another
Inspiration though. My daughter and husband have The Alta snd are happy
with its step tracking. I hope this has been of help. In my opinion,
Fitbit should offer a recall.

I bought my Inspire HR about 5 weeks ago and it hasn't overcounted steps the entire time, but it started doing so earlier this week.  I am trying the reset to see if it will work.  I hit 10,000 while driving home earlier today.  I have it on my left wright which would be my non-dominant side, however I do mouse with it and wonder if that's causing the problem.  However, as I stated, it has not done that since the beginning.  I had been using the Charge 2 but like the fact this is smaller and is waterproof.  After reading all the threads, it looks like tech support is working on this problem?  Is there an update for the fitbit I'm not aware of?

Thank you, I already returned my Inspire HR, I don't trust anything that gives me steps while I'm sleeping or driving :). On the lookout for a new device with a better accuracy.  Advice for Fitbit, this is an issue that has been going on for some time, make it a priority before you lose more Fitbit users :).

Same issue. Mine arrived at my PO Box yesterday and I set it up in my truck as soon as I received it. It was taking a while to install the initial update l, so I let it do so while I drove to town. As soon as I parked, 30 minutes later, it was done. I put it on, walked into the bar from my parking spot that was 100ft or less away, and I already had 300 steps. I had a little too much fun last night, so I didn’t move around much today and somehow I am currently at 1,829 steps. I don’t recall wildly tap dancing to the fridge to make spaghetti earlier today. Yet, I have received numerous awards for valiantly obliterating perceived exercise goals, burning a whopping 1848 calories along the way; glad I burned off that spaghetti.

Joking aside (though all of that was true though), this appears to be a serious issue. I wanted to share my experience and I would love to be updated on this when it’s solved.

Hi Yojana,

I have recently purchased the Inspire HR and have found the step counts to be wildly inaccurate. I have managed to complete over 1,500 steps while typing for the past hour. I have tried to rectify this by restarting the device, dominate wrist settings etc to no avail.

Based on the previous comments here, it appears this bug was introduced in the last update. While the Dev team are working to fix this bug (is there an estimated SLA for this?), is it possible to roll back the last update? At least it appears to have worked much better then the current version?

Kind Regards

Courtney

I bought a Fitbit inspire HR last week and I am really disappointed with it. It is significantly over calculating steps on a daily basis. This morning I have already clocked 498 when in all likelihood it is around 200 steps..

i did not have this problem with my last Fitbit.

£90 is significant amount of money to spend on a gadget that is completely inaccurate and therefore pointless to use.

Please can can someone help or should I ask for my money back?

Thanks

The Fitbit is accurate for counting steps. However it is over sensitive and counts steps with the slightest movement, driving typing etc., so far today my Inspire HR has logged 16000 steps whilst the true number is closer to 8000 (iPhone health app). The response I had from Fitbit was to change the dominant arm settings around, but this failed to solve the issue.
I would have sent mine back but I managed to scratch the face whilst wearing it trying to improve the accuracy.

So that indicates this is a hardware fault that can't be fixed with software updates.   I will be returning it to get my money back.

So I assume I can have a full refund as the device is actually functioning in the way it is supposed to and for the purpose it was bought for?

New to Inspire HR - after 2 years with an Alta HR.  I am noticing that regular walks and daily activity are getting me to my daily goal - when similar days and distances should only have gotten half those steps and distances.  I will try changing the Dominant from what it has been on my Alta to see if it works better for Inspire - but this is surprising to find it so different.  My Alta would give me steps on a bumpy road in my truck but not in my car.

Is the Inspire just more sensitive?

Best Answer
I am finding that it is too sensitive. I would have sent mine back but I scratched the face whilst wearing it testing out its accuracy.
