Over counting steps causing calories burned and distance

Step Counter has counted over 2000 steps from sitting at my desk.  I chatted with tech support for about 30 minutes with no resolution to problem.  Tech support said that the product is possibly recording steps from typing(not joking).  According to the device i have burned over 1500 calories and covered 1.35 miles without breaking a sweat and all while sitting at my desk typing.  Makes me wonder if the sleep tracker and heart rate monitor are also inaccurate.  I will exchange for a new device.  If problem continues, i will return it.  After speaking to tech support, i am not confident this issue will get fixed.

Yes I have downloaded the update last week. I am not seeing any differences in the way that the Fitbit over counts.

Hi @CDavey28, thanks for reporting that you're still seeing discrepancies about how your Fitbit is tracking you data. I'll be updating this information with our team. Thanks for your patience while we continue working on this.

Thought I would put a few numbers to my earlier comment.
Today ;
- 30 mile journey, 45 minute driving time, 500 steps gained.
- 42 mile journey, 55 minute driving, 800 steps gained.
(To be fair this is not as many as when I tested the Fitbit whilst driving pre update).

However overall today my Fitbit is logging 5000 steps more than my iPhone app, 8600 v’s 3600.
This still is an unacceptable level of accuracy.

I have an Inspire HR and I cut grass for a living. My HR logs it as Cycling and my step count is way over 26000 the days I wear it and when I don't my phone logs around 10000 that's way over what it should be. I get that the vibrations from the law mower nay cause this but it's the same when I drive and like many others have said when I sleep.

I thought an update w as s supposed to take care of this problem.   I did the update a few weeks ago with no change.

Same. I've contacted them to see if I can return it as this has been months but I've been told to wait again whilst the team work on it. I'm really disappointed in how fitbit are handling this

I noticed they said the team is working on a solution since May, it's August. I got this for my birthday and whether GPS is on or not it counts steps when I brush my teeth or shuffle cards lol. Is the team working on it or are you just saying they are? When will we be recieving the update that fixes it or at least improves it?

I just want to know because I am trying to live a healthier lifestyle and I would prefer this to at least be a little more accurate.

I agree. I've been reading about an update since I purchased it in may.

I miss my Zip. I ran it through the washer 3 times and the last time it didn't survive. I went to buy a new one and my only choice was the Inspire. After one week, I am pretty disappointed in the inaccuracy of this thing. It's so bad, what's the point? I spent over $100. I can give myself innacurate results for free.

Getting very boring really and they’re still on sale! What a disgrace

Looks like these things aren't accurate at all. I had 2500 steps, burned 1500 calories before dinner.  I just walked from my recliner, ate, and sat back down (about 30 minutes). Added 700 steps and lost 300 more calories! Best diet I've ever tried!

Fantastic 🤣 - now I feel short changed. Fitbit seem to have gone quiet!

I was with my fried the other day and she sensibly bought a Vivo watch rather than a Fitbit and it is far more accurate mind was counting 2 steps for her one!

What is the point in wearing this thing?

Mine still counts twice as many steps as that logged by the iPhone app.
As before most of the over counting occurs whilst travelling.

Losing hope now for a software update that would improve the Inspire Hr to a level of acceptable accuracy.

The least Fitbit should do is when a replacement to the HR is launched, they set up a heavily discounted exchange offer for us long suffering customers who purchased the hr in good faith but have been let down by its accuracy failings.

If you purchased via Amazon (and it was dispatched by Amazon), they have a very generous return policy. So you could give that a go if you don't want to wait. I've returned mine.

Thanks for this. At least Amazon are doing the right thing. Shame Fitbit aren’t following suit. Unfortunately I didn’t get mine via Amazon.

Amazing that there are do many people with issues and Fitbit are not helping us.

My 2 going back to Amazon today. Mine and wife's both count at least 4x actual steps and 4x actual calories lost. Here's on Nexus 5 has to try to connect to Bluetooth at least 5 times before it actually syncs.  Counts light sleeping as laying there watching TV. Might try the xi-band4, but pretty much decided these things are a waste (even if they worked).

I am having the same issue, and will be returning my Fitbit Inspire HR unless Fitbit can confirm they're actively working on a fix? I've had it 3 days, and it's consistently overclocked my steps by thousands of steps while I sat on my couch, typed, and occasionally petted my dog.

I have the latest update, I've already switched it to "dominant" while wearing it on my non-dominant wrist, and read through the suggested fixes. Having to do workarounds like adding a "driving" override to compensate for the 3k steps I somehow managed to take in 15 minutes while lying on my bed snuggling my dog is unreasonable. (Most of this time I spent dozing, not wildly windmilling my arms like I was being attacked by a swarm of bees.)

I purchased the device in order to accurately track my steps, and it should be able to do that out of the box?

It feels like Fitbit have given up with any fix for the Inspire with their lack of communication and failure of any type of fix.
I think you would be best to return it whilst you can and look for a more accurate alternative.

I'm using my husband's Charge 3, woke up today to 46 steps, I think it is a problem with all the fitbits.  I'm almost done.  While i don't expect 100 % accuracy, I don't expect to get steps while I sleep or drive.  So disappointed in Fitbit as I've been a customer since the ultra that clipped onto a bra.
