So I did a ton of searching and didn't find a resolution for anything...
Last night I went for a long walk and got caught in the rain, so my walk turned into a run halfway. It didn't track the exercise automatically, though it added the active minutes. I'm guessing it didn't track because I basically changed exercises. I adjusted the amount of time required for auto tracking, but it didn't seem to change anything and make it realize there was exercise. Is there a way to get it to recognize the information it already has? I was most interested in the heart rate, so manual entry wouldn't do me any good.
My second issue is with the burned calorie counts. The other day I had around 11,500 steps and it said I burned over 1900 calories with 0 active minutes. Yesterday I had around 11,800 steps with 53 active minutes, but it says I only burned about 1700 calories. Why are the calories burned lower when there are more steps AND more time considered active? It doesn't make sense to me.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @ETNsilverstar. It´s nice to see new faces around. I´ll be glad to assist you with your exercise and calorie inquiry.
How long did your exercise take? How many minutes did you set for these types of exercises? Do you have different times for walking and running in order to activate the SmartTrack? Currently, the only way to register this exercise is manually logging it but, as you mentioned before. it won´t work for you.
Regarding your calorie inquiry, was the day you made less steps and active minutes less active? Sometimes you just have one moment of activity with registered active minutes but the rest of the day is less active than other days that don´t register active minutes but have more activity. You can check help article What are active minutes?
Please let me know if you have more questions.

My exercise took somewhere between 20 and 30 minutes. I was only planning to go on a long walk, so I didn't look at the time. The smart track was set up at 15 minutes for both walking and running, though I switched it to 10 minutes after seeing that it wasn't being listed as exercise.
Yes, the day with less steps and less active minutes was less active than the day that had more of each. It was one of the first days after I got my fitbit, so I wasn't doing much yet.
