When Seniors Use Walkers, Steps Don't Get Counted

Each senior needs to know that when they have a FitBit on their wrist, their steps will not be counted if they are using a walker.

FitBit's solution? Remove the FitBit from your wrist and put it in your pocket, then steps will be counted by the movement of your leg.

Of course, while it's in your pocket, forget checking the time, your heart rate, etc.

Steps are important to seniors and walkers help them get steps safely.

Does anyone know of any other fitness tracker that does not require arm movements?

While not on a walker, I am a senior whose movement does not always include wrist movement. (Think under table elliptical, other recumbent exercise machines). I’ve had good results using an extender or ankle band. I make sure the Fitbit device itself is placed over the side of my lower calve, on muscle, not bone. It seems to capture heart rate info well. Of course, as you said, it’s not easy to check the time but I always have my phone nearby so check it there. Fitbit does sell a device (Inspire, non HR) that can be worn on a clip, but it does not track heart rate.

Thanks for the thoughtful answer.

I was unaware of the non-HR Inspire.
