My calories spending data is almost certainly overestimated by Fitbit, seemingly an ongoing issue in the fitness tracker industry.
I changed my heart rate thresholds from the default to what better reflects my cardiorespiratory fitness. This seemed to have worked a smidge. But the calculation is still off I think.
One reason for the overestimation, I think, could be the elevated heart rate I get sporadically throughout the day from my...ahem... smoking 😬.
Anyway, wondering what others have experienced, and anything else worth knowing about this really.

Don't think you can expect it to "improve" without having established there is anything wrong with it.

The thing that's wrong, as I wrote, is the apparent overestimation.
So, if I take 7 August data, the cal burn figure was 4,474 calories. My BMR is about 1,800. BMR+TEF should be, let's say, about 2,200. Cal burn in exercise on that day was 350 (fitbit calculated exercises). Other activities (my estimation) would be approximately 450. There's still 1,500 calories unaccounted for.
This day's figure was particularly high, but other days have similar discrepancies.
