2 weeks in and Versa malfunctioning after water exposure (kayak session)

After a kayaking session yesterday, tracked with GPS on phone and exercise feature set to 'Ride' my new Versa Special Edition has started randomly triggering the payment feature. Watch wake is set to double tap/button press rather than lift to wake. 

 

I've shut down and restarted but it keeps turning the screen on and going to payment without any input from me. Not encouraging at all.

Is your payment app connected with your top or bottom right button? My watch stared to act up after swimming and my lower right button appears to be pressed constantly and it's constantly opening the associated app.

Nope, down is Spotify HR, up is Strava and only holding down the back button triggers payment.
