Alexa comes up, says Ask Away, but nothing happens. It then comes up with “Ask Alexa a question”. I’ve rebooted, reloaded the software. It’s as if the microphone isn’t working.

Hello @Rav19 and a warm welcome. A long shot -- please verify on your Versa 2 that the microphone is enabled. Go to the Settings on your Versa 2 (swipe to the left until you get to the Gear icon) and make sure your microphone is enabled. If it was disabled, I'm not sure how that could have happened. Weird stuff happens.
If your microphone is enabled, but Alexa still doesn't respond, then you should contact Support.

While holding in the button, if the button is set for Alexa, you should see a blue Alexa symbol with horizontal bars above it.

After going thru the same things again, I called Support and went through the same things again. The final determination was that the Versa is defective. I sent it back and will be receiving a replacement. Thanks for all your help.

I have the same issue, microphone has become unresponsive. It used to work with Alexa and with Text replies, but has stopped. I have had several emails with support with progressively not useful suggestions. I'll have to call. If others having issues, please vote.

My replacement works sometimes, sometimes not. Does same thing as the first one. It also loses connection a lot. I can’t remember Versa1 having that problem. I’m hoping eventually, with the Google buyout, they will figure out the problem.

My only thought would be to go into the settings of the Versa 2 and turn off the microphone. Then as a second option shut the Versa 2 off. Once powered up try Alexa, the user will be promoted to turn on the mic.
