An App is Needed to Use this Device??

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Suddenly my Versa 2 no longer receives text messages on the watch. Checked to see if it was still connected to Bluetooth and when I click on Versa 2 it pops a message - An App Is Needed to Use This Device. I have the app. Everything was working a week ago. I cleared the app cache - restarted the phone and the watch. Nothing is working. Within in app I can sync the device. But still don't receive text messages on the watch or have it connect to bluetooth. Anyone else having this issue? Need help.

@EBABE_603 your watch shows this message to use an app?

Are you saying that you also see a clock face and time.

Usually when a user sees this message, it means the tracker only has the limited Firmware that came with the watch.

If you can see the time. It would be helpful to know what app on the watch is giving this need age.

I would suggest you go back on this thread and find the instructions given by @SunsetRunner on 10/20/20 -there are 2 posts. I believe it is on pg 1. In the second one directions are given that were obtained from fitbit customer service. That is what I did and my notifications began working again and I haven't had a problem since then.

I've got an S21 and until a few weeks ago, my Versa 3 was working well. Then I decided I wanted to change the units on my weather app from Fahrenheit to Centigrade. When I tried to access the app gallery, I found I couldn't Instead I saw a message telling me there was no internet connection, which I knew was wrong, as I saw the internet was connected when I set up the device.

I went into my Bluetooth connections, pressed the versa 3 button and received the message "An app is needed to  use this device". This annoyed me as I know I have the app on my phone!

@happychick53 as mentioned above, the user will not be able to manage the Bluetooth connection on the phone. Any attempt to pair a fitbit tracker through the phones Bluetooth will be rejected by the tracker and a message to use the (Fitbit) app

On the phone open the fitbit app, eventually the fitbit app will ask for permission to pair/connect the tracker to the phone.

You received this message because you where not using the Fitbit App. This also goes for every Low Energy Bluetooth device, like body scales, smart thermostats, smart lights, tile trackers, etc

Changed the settings for my text messages so that they are previewed on the locked screen instead of just showing "new message" (Samsung 21fe) and it has solved the issue of not being able to read my text messages on my fitbit (charge 5)

I really don't like having to do this in order for it to work on my fitbit however, I cant get it to work any other way so, it is what it is..

Hope this helps someone as I have just spent the last 2 hours trying to figure this out.

I don't know if this is the same issue I was having. My watch had the red X and Data Not Cleared  sync and try again.

What I did was unpair my fit bit versa. I then unistalled the app. Reinstalled the app. I logged in and make sure to allow all permissions. I went through the set up that popped up. Then I tapped the plus blue sign,  add new device went choose versa then hit replace new device and it worked.

After 2 days of trying everything, I resolved the issue with the following:

1. Open the Fitbit app.

2. Click Today

3. Click Profile

4. Unpair any device.

5. Click Add Devive.

6. Try Sync then.

Thank you - this was exactly the instruction I need to get notifications to start working and also helped me find where to log in to my spotify account. Getting notifications and access to music were the main reasons I got this device and was so frustrated after initial set up that neither were working. Thank you!

I finally chatted with customer service, at the time they told me servers were down. They had me do a few things to try to fix the problem. They said that when the server was fixed that the problem would be solved and the next day my fitbit was work. But I lost a day on my fitbit and it set me back to day one as if I was starting new

I am having the same problem. Noticed this was dated in 2020 - I guess fitbit doesn't care to resolve this issue. Come on people. Fix this problem.

Why revive a 2 year old stale thread?

Yes the Fitbit app is needed. I've never seen this message so I'm not sure what is going on.

Does your tracker sync data? Notifications? Can you respond to notifications?

Get any error messages when opening the fitbit app. How about when opening the notification setttings?

My current issue is that my Bluetooth mysteriously turns off.
