Can Fitbit at least confirm they’re working on a new version of firmware for the Versa given the amount of issues users seem to be experiencing? It’s very disheartening to see little other than bugs and workarounds posted here, rather than hard solutions.

I consider support on the Versa to be stopped.
Reps wont say it, because the Charge 3 is just around the corner.

There will be updates. The Versa is a huge seller - I really doubt Fitbit will be superseeding it yet. The Charge 3 is a sophisticated tracker, not a smart watch - a different thing entirely.
But Fitbit are unlikely to say when new updates will be available until they come out.
