Anyone Else having Trouble tracking swim distances?

So, I just went on 42:33 minute swim in open water on a lake. I changed my swim preferences on my Versa before I began to cue every 500.00 meters. When I got back to WiFi, I synced my Versa with the app and found that I had 6 500-meter “lengths” and one 100-meter length for a total distance of 3100 meters or 31 “lengths.” When I converted meters to miles with an online calculator I came up with 3100=1.926 miles. My husband, who is a faster and stronger swimmer than I swam the same route but a bit further and faster (he does not have a Fitbit or any other tracker). He SWEARS that what I just did is physically impossible even for him and that my Fitbit is “just wrong.” Can someone tell me what is going on? Have I got my preferences messed up? Screen Shot after syncScreen Shot after sync

The tracker is not made for open water swims and will not track distance correctly in the open water. Fitbits calculate your distance by counting your laps and multiplying bybthe pool length entered. To count the laps the tracker needs very clear pool ends whichnis very difficult to do in open water. To register the poolend the tracker needs a pause in the arm movement - either by stopping for several seconds or by giving a good push off the wall and gliding.

I think you need to try it in a pool with the correct pool length entered and clear lap ends to seenif itnis working correctly.

As an aside, can I ask where you find that page in your app? I dont get anything like that (that I can find) in mine (android  - is your phone iOS?)?

Thanks for the great response.  I have been wondering why I lose a length or two each workout and it comes down to my taking a rest between laps and pausing the workout, then unpausing.  It must be getting confused when I start out again.
