Are there different ways to charge my Versa 3?

Other than using my computer port, how can I safely charge my Versa 3. I’m sure we used to be warned against plugging into mains via a USB plug so is that still a problem?

Adding to @Talahthas's tips and recommendations, please find below some tips to best charge Fitbit devices:

  • Use only genuine Fitbit charging cables
  • Avoid USB battery packs
  • Charge at room temperature

For charging purposes, your charging cable or your base station can be plugged into any USB power source, including but not limited to:

  • A computer
  • A Wall A/C to USB adapter, commonly found with smartphones
  • A DC to USB adapter (vehicle power port)

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @Dc-117!

As mentioned in the Versa 3 manual, as long as you're using a UL-certified USB wall charger or another low-energy charging device to charge your Versa 3 , you're fine. I'd recommend getting a wall charger made by a reputable manufacturer as those most likely have passed all required safety standards.

I’m in the uk so UL doesn’t apply. That’s the problem!

To have a watch designed that can only be charged from a computer USB port denotes a poor design. I have used a proper USB charger for my watch and I have had 2 Versa 3 watches fail in the same amount of time and in the same manner: the battery only lasts 6h. Recently when I tried to charge my Versa 3 it got super hot and I am wondering if I wasn't around to disconnect it, would it have caught on fire? I had an Ionic watch before that was recalled because of a battery failure. If water can get inside the watch and generates these issue again, this would denote a poor design as after 6-8 months the watch is failing in this way. No matter how I think about it I can only see a poorly designed product that doesn't work as advertised. If I need to disable features from the phone or charge it in a very specific way or disconnect it exactly when it got fully charged otherwise it gets damaged then this is not a product that should have been sold n the first place! If the watch doesn't have an internal circuit to protect itself from overcharging then please take it back to the RD team and let them finish the design properly and then sell it to customers. You make the assumption that someone will pay the $500 price tag for a watch that lasts only a year and a half (my case) and I can tell you that this assumption is wrong.
