All,
My responses seems to be getting buried so I'm making a dedicated post. I have found a workaround for those experiencing the freezing/cannot swipe issue after their watch is in idle mode for awhile. My watch was locking up as well. This has worked for me.
Got to Settings, change the Screen Wake setting to Manual (button). The default setting of Auto (Motion) appears to be bugged now. Fitbit needs to patch this ASAP. This workaround has worked for me for the past 24+ hours. I hope a mod sees this so it gets reported up to the developers.
I hope this helps others.

Yep, this is a PIA. I've taken our advice and gone to manual. I don't think this was an issue back a few months ago with earlier firmware? I've just updated today to 35.70.7.21 and the problem persists.
Someone else said it was fixed if you went back to the original clock face... However, this didn't fix it for me. So I have to go back to manual rather than motion detected screen wake as you have suggested.
Surely FITBIT can do something about this problem rapidly, as there are lots of complaints here.

@ManchuWarrior After getting it to work by going to manual, did you try going back to Auto to see whether it worked then?

Mine was doing this as well, I recently posted that my bitmoji clock wasn’t working properly but the post has been deleted. Was your watch experiencing this problem as well? Im really hoping your instructions help fix this.

No, I havent tried to switch back to Auto.
Also if this helps others with diagnosis, I was experiencing the lack of being able to scroll after idle time prior to and during version 35.70.721.

No I didn't have symptoms like that. My symptoms were the watch freezing/lack of being able to scroll after the watch was idle for some time. Upon the watch auto wakikg upnwith wrist movement, I couldnt scroll. Switching to manual wake up helped.

Mine also does that, but was hoping your steps helped with both issues im experiencing. I’ve found myself frustrated with the need to manually troubleshoot (rig) multiple issues, on a routine basis in order for my device to function properly. I’m over the routine, including the scripted responses by FitBit associates after sharing these frustrations.

Mine is doing the same, but’s it’s also been randomly rebooting. Is anyone else having issues with this?

Thanks for this, I've also been having this problem and I thought it was mostly caused by Sleep Mode. I'll try with Auto Wake disabled for a while and see how that goes.
What I've observed:
While most of the problems occur when Sleep Mode is on, I have seen the rare occasion where the watch restarts during the day. Also this morning at the gym the watch would occasionally not wake when I pushed the button during a workout. But since the problems are so consistent with Sleep Mode on I have assumed the problem was software related.
I tried a factory reset yesterday to see if that would fix the issues, but unfortunately not. Suspecting that maybe it was my watch face, I tried a Fitbit watch face for a couple days instead of the one I usually use. This also made no difference.
I've had the Versa 2 since October and it was perfect, so I strongly suspect this is firmware related since these issues cropped up in the recent updates.

The scripted responses are soooo annoying!
I got a response today saying, "We're glad to hear our team took good care of you."
Like what?!!! You haven't done anything, my screen is still freezing constantly

I've had the same issues as everyone above. I changed to manual wake and this got me out of trouble for a while. I had tried all the other remedies and this was the best of a poor lot of options.
However, I was not happy and have been re-trying some of the options. I did a full factory reset and deleted all the applications and clock faces that I had uploaded (several times). When reloading clock faces, I noticed that the Fitbit Windows application tried to load old versions of some clock faces compared to the clock faces that were loaded when I used the Android app... So now I've got my watch with a fresh factory reset and everything else reloaded from the Android app where possible (I had to use Windows PC for music and wallet). I'm using the Minimal Style clock from Lee Doel (version 1.0.7.1 dated 13 February 2020) 12 hour mode with seconds enabled, always on and auto (motion) wake. I can hardly believe my luck after all this grief... but (touch wood) the screen is back to normal responsiveness😅.
I'll post again to advise whether my elation was premature...

I'm happy to say my swipe/freezing issues have not returned (yet?). The secret seems to be: do a full factory reset and then don't install anything from the Windows 10 app... only use the phone app to load clock faces and apps... Minimal Style clockface by Lee Doel seems to work well. Using minimum added apps (just added timer and agenda). Cheers
