Black vs. Special Edition Charcoal

I love the look of the black Versa, but for some reason I keep thinking about FitBit Pay and the NFC chip included in the special edition. If the special edition came in black it would be a no brainer for me, but I have strong preference to the black.

With that said, is anyone else having this same debate but has decided to go with the charcoal model? What are your thoughts between the two? Anyone actually prefer charcoal vs the black? I guess I'm hoping someone can convince me to go with the charcoal over the black version purely for FitBit Pay.

Do you use Fitbit pay a bunch? I would first check the list of banks Fitbit supports to see if you use a lot of them, if not, then it's not worth it. But the SE editions do come with 2 bands, if you order the charcoal band, it also comes with a black classic band. When you go out do you normally bring your wallet? Or do you think paying from your wrist is something you will use everyday.

It definitely comes down to personal preference. For me, I like the charcoal/graphite color. It has a great look both as a fitness tracker and as a casual watch. I like the contrast of the color against the black watch face the SE band as well as black band. With the black, there is no color contrast; it’s all black. Again, this is my personal preference. Everyone has different taste. I also want Fitbit Pay since it works with my bank Wells Fargo. That said, I would have gone with the charcoal even if it didn’t have Fitbit Pay.  My recommendation... go with the color that is most visually appealing to you.  Don’t over think it. Good luck.

I have Bank of America which is part of FitBit Pay. I think it's the whole nice to have thing. I rarely go out without eithery wallet or phone which has Android Pay for contactless payments.

@DAsp4 in that case it really comes down to are you willing to pay $30 more for an extra band? There's Fitbit pay and that's the main reason for the extra $30 but if you think you won't use it, don't go for it. However, if you really like the colour of the SE band and you wouldn't mind paying an extra $30 for it, think about how much you want it. Do you really want it it? Do you need it? Think about when you would use the bands if you bought the SE. Personally, I have no use for another band and I've seen videos and it looks hard to change the bands. You really can't even wear the SE band to work out too...

I had this same issue. The thing that made my decision was I decided I cared more about what I was looking at day-to-day rather than 1 extra feature i'd rarely use. I went with the original black version. In the future I hope to see the woven bands available for purchase separately.

It's funny. I asked my wife for her opinion between the charcoal and black and she instantly said "charcoal". I usually take her advice when it comes to style, so she has convinced me to order the special edition version. Her justification was that the charcoal looks more stylish instead of a standard black activity tracker. I tend to agree, but I do like black a lot! I think black can go with anything and it's a safe bet.

I've revised my preordered through Amazon from black to the special edition in charcoal. Now, it's a waiting game until the 17th!

I prefer the charcoal as well, & I like that I'll be getting two sets of bands with it. For me, it's worth the extra charge (although I was very hesitant to go for it at first -- I originally ordered the silver). I also think the charcoal face looks more stylish & will be versatile for casual / exercise wear, as another user mentioned.

However, I would say go with what you *really like* & can see yourself wearing on a daily basis. As I said, I originally ordered silver then spent a week regretting it, before I realized I should just shell out the extra $30 for the model I'd be happiest with.

Or just order your watch from any other country other than the US where NFC is standard on all models. Then get black like you want for less cash
