Brand new Versa 2 won't update over Wifi

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My weeks-old Versa 2 will not update over Wifi.  I was unable to use Wifi on its initial setup, so I proceeded with Bluetooth which ultimately worked.

However, when subsequently trying to transfer personal music to the watch, I found that the app would never find the watch over Wifi. I then sought to have it connect to the watch via manually inputting the IP Address, but the watch always said "Wifi Off" under IP Address.

In an effort to resolve this, I followed instructions I found on this forum to factory reset the watch and set it up again, this time using Wifi.  However, the initial wifi update fails every time.  It gets to 5% on the app, then says -1%, and the watch displays a red X.  The app then suggests I set it up over Bluetooth.

I am having ALL of the above problems (watch not being found for transfer of music; watch not being setup/updated over  Wifi) regardless of the network I try to use (both home and office) and in both instances, I am right by the router.

Do I have a lemon or what?

Presumably you are setting up wifi by?

In the phone Fitbit App

Click on profile photo [top left]

Wi-Fi settings

What is the failure when you enter the password?

Are you sure its a 2.5 GHz Wifi you are connecting to?

Yes, I can actually connect to a wifi network once I've set the watch up over bluetooth. But I can't set it up/update it over wifi.  The only reason I care is I read elsewhere that setting it up over wifi on the front end might fix the problem I'm having where I can't transfer music to the watch via the desktop app (i.e., watch is never found by the desktop app).

Probably a confusion, as normally a phone Fitbit app arranges all this and you have to do nothing special once wifi has been defined for the watch.

Also presumably the PC has Bluetooth and in which case you must disable Bluetooth on the phone, or any other devices, otherwise the watch will be thoroughly confused.

Thanks for trying to help, but I've tried that and all other troubleshooting steps you can find on the web. Bluetooth is disabled on all other devices. I've tried having the watch in the charging cradle and right next to my router, etc, on two different networks, using three different PCs and I run into the same problem every single time.

@Guy_ by using Fitbit connect. I've been told that the win 10 app needs to be removed.

i have seen a LOT of these posts with this exact issue and no real resolution from fitbit. I got my Versa 2 yesterday and cannot do the initial setup, it says it must update the tracker but then fails in just the manner you described. I refuse to wait 2 hours for it to update over Bluetooth. The products need to work as designed or we need replacements. My Versa 2 confirms it is connected to my wifi, but then gives the red X every time i try to update. I have also done every bit of troubleshooting fitbit provided.

@CLu09 are you also having problems uploading music to your tracker?

While doing the update/setup is the tracker plugged in and charging?

I don't know how long it takes over WiFi, but I have updated trackers over BT durring a 45 minute car ride.
