Brand new versa 2 Alexa and voice reply not working

I have looked through the forums for both of these issues, but no potential solutions offered in any I've seen have worked for me. 

I purchased a Versa 2 around 4pm today.  It is synced, the app is running constantly in the background. Set to English.  

 

When I try to use Alexa, it just says "Thinking..." and then says "Ask again. Sorry I didn't get your request".

 

And if I try to voice reply to a text message it says transcription error. 

 

Please help.
