Bright red light for heart rate and battery drain

Sudden change in Versa behaviour which is now basically unusable.  Have done a full factory reset but it did not help.  Bright red light goes on where the heart rate monitor typically goes (green lights) and the whole band drains in less than 0.5 days.  Won't last through the night for sleep tracking.  Thinking of heading over to Garmin as this is my 4th Fitbit and they don't seem to last more than 18 months on me.
