I noticed my calories burned were unusually high so I wanted to test something. (I did not wear the watch all day)

Why is my fitbit burning calories if I am not wearing it? I understand it burns BMR calories automatically but varying amounts every hour? (see picture)

I have a Versa btw

You can do some research yourself on data that we can't see.  You know that calorie burn is based on heart rate.  Look at the heart rate graph to see if it was getting readings;  also steps graph to see if it was registering steps, particularly at the high calorie burn time, perhaps from vibrations.

Yes i'm aware of all you said, there are steps registered even though i haven't worn my watch all day.

Also the calories burned should be just the BMR calories burned. I shouldn't see differing numbers per hour for calories burned or steps at all.

I will say again, I did not wear the watch all day so there should be no steps registered,  and calories should be a consistent number all throughout just counting BMR calories burned

There's no need to repeat those things.  I know.  And I don't know why you got calorie burn, but just repeating that you shouldn't have doesn't really do any good.

But you did not mention heart rate, which is what calorie burn is a function of.
But note, steps were high at the same time as calorie burn was high.  But without knowing if heart rate was recording, we don't know if that is significant.  But this is all things you can investigate, or you can just say this should not be, and be left with a mystery.

Why would heart rate matter if I did not wear the watch all day. I don't want to be rude but I don't think you understand my point.

I did not wear the watch at all, not even a single minute all day, there should be no steps or heart rate registered for the day.

There should be no peaks or valleys in the graph if it was sitting on my desk all day

Sorry, my mistake.  I thought you wanted to try to figure out what was going on; why you were getting extra calorie burn, but perhaps not.

Yes, I agree there should not be any peaks or valleys in the heart rate graph; but likewise there should not have been peaks or valleys in the calorie burn or step rate graphs either, but there were.

So, I'm sorry your calorie burn doesn't seem to be working right.  Perhaps somebody else can help you.  I don't have any theories ready with the info available.

@JohnnyRow Thank you for your help.

@Channyboy326 , A warm welcome to the Community! Thank you for your message and screenshots.

Please make sure that you don't have MobileTrack on.

This feature uses the phone's sensors to count steps. This is for when you have left your Fitbit at home (e.g. while charging). Please make sure MobileTrack is not activated.
It may happen that the steps recorded with the cell phone overwrite those of the Fitbit .

In the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon (top left corner).
There you will see the devices linked to your account.
If you see the Mobile Device Active option, tap it and remove it from the account.

If this is on, and you are taking your phone with you , it might track your steps and with it, also count your calories.

Thank you @JohnnyRow and @JuanFitbit, I think you are correct about the connected phone tracking steps. I'll try turning it off to test it out

Thanks again
