Calories burned extremely high and inaccurate

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My brand new versa is saying I burned 3,400 calories yesterday and over 2,500 today which is not accurate at all and is obviously extremely high. Is there anything I can do to make this more accurate?

I experienced this too, and I think it was linked to Versa reading my heart rate inaccurately (too high), giving me more active minutes, and thus more calories burned. I'm sorry this isn't really helpful, but this is my guess as to what's going on.

Without trying to be offensive, are you overweight and did you enter your weight and height into your setup. If so then calorie count can be higher as you are carrying extra weight. I noticed when I first started my calorie count was higher, but as my weight dropped the count was lower for the same amount of exercise. This is just a guess of course and maybe my calorie count was off as well and it just settled back to normal.

Well I wouldn’t be over weight if I was really burning 3,400 calories a day hahah! But to answer your question I am a little over weight and got this to help track things. This is just nowhere near accurate as far as calories burned.

Thanks for your input. Has yours ever evened out?

I have some slimmer friends who do the same workout and their calorie count is less than mine for the same amount of exercise. I am still very much overweight but am getting fitter and despite my bad knee am walking further and further, will soon be up to 10kms I'm already at 6kms with an elevation of 203 meters.

This time my calorie count is remaining around the same, but that is because I am not focusing on entering the weight. In the past I have focused too much on weight and been disappointed when I reached the plateau point where weight no longer goes down for some time. So I am ignoring the weight aspect and focusing on distance and energy levels which both are improving substantially. Eventually I'll re-weigh myself and enter the new figure and see what impact that has on the calorie count, but for now I'm happy to leave it as it is.

@Lsumner812 I agree with both @SunsetRunner and @bea0727. Could you please post some screenshots of your heart rate recordings for a day from Fitbit mobile app? This way we could exclude faulty HR monitoring. Nevertheless, it's entirely possible to burn 2500 or even 3400 depending on your weight and exercise intensity level. Please remember that majority of the calories burned can be allocated to your BMR. It doesn't mean your exercise made you burn 2500. Please read more here. There are BMR online calculators that you could use to estimate your BMR based on your weight, height, age, gender etc. Fitbit uses similar formula to estimate BMR. That plus calories you burned during activities = your total calories out.

Hi my fitbit versa shows way too many calories? I take off my watch at night and leave on the bench and every morning there are around 250 calories burned?

@Wendymatt1 That's normal as those are the calories from your BMR. Please refer to my post above.

@SeabreaseSeabre This is not normal. Have you tried performing a factory reset (restoring versa to factory defaults)? Before factory reset, make sure you have deleted versa your phone's Bluetooth settings (not Fitbit app). To perform factory reset, open settings app on you Versa and scroll down to About. Tap it and choose factory reset. This will wipe all data from your tracker so it would be good if you could sync it first.

After factory reset you will need to set up your versa again by adding a replacement device in your Fitbit mobile app. You can set up the watch back to the Fitbit account by following the instructions on this link: How do I set up my Fitbit device?

If you're not successful with the factory reset, I am afraid you will need to reach out to Customer Support to guide you through the next steps. Here's the link to Customer Support page.
