I have started swimming in the sea, obviously the versa 2 tracks laps in swim mode, as I have a waterproof holder for my phone, I was wondering, can I put the versa into walk mode when I go for a swim so that my phone can use GPS to more accurately show the distance swam?
I know that due to refraction it won't accurately show heart rate, I'm just concerned that the device has to be in swim mode when in the water.

It's great to see you in the Fitbit Community, @dieterv.
Thank you for your question.
You can track your swimming sessions automatically (SmartTrack) or manually (Exercise app). Therefore, it is not necessary having the Fitbit Versa 2 in swim mode when in the water.
I've heard that some users get distance traveled from swimming sessions by starting a GPS activity on their Fitbit devices. You can give it a try but in this type of situations we won't be able to guarantee an optimal performance because Fitbit devices haven't been designed to be used in this way.
