Can't connect and now fitbit message 'unlock with your phone'

So for the past 5-6 days, my fitbit hasn't synced with my phone. I tried all the things suggested in the forums (in the order suggested) and after hours of trying, I managed to get it connected. I woke up the next morning and my fitbit wouldn't sync again!! I got so frustrated trying to get it to connect again that I gave up and decided to try again this evening. I picked up my fitbit which had been on charge and it now says 'Unlock with your phone' - my phone isn't connected and I can't connect it so what the hell do I do?

I had the lock on it when it was inactive/removed from the wrist but had never attached a card to the fitbit.

 

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm just about ready to chuck the thing out the window!!!

Just to add - my husband had tried connecting my Versa to his phone and he cant find it either...
