Can't get notifications anymore from Fitbit Versa, sync is also spotty.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I received my Fitbit Versa for my birthday at the end of April and it worked splendidly. It was able to get give me email, text message,  whatsapp, calender notifications, and I had no problems syncing at all.

5 Months later, and the situation has changed dramatically. I no longer am able to get any notifications on my fitbit, and if it does happen, it's usually an hour or so late. Syncing does not happen, even with all-day sync, GPS and bluetooth on.

I have searched the forums and implemented the "solved" solutions on the following forums:

https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Versa-Smartwatches/Versa-won-t-sync/m-p/2947135#M46776 (Removing the Versa from the app and re-doing the setup, ensuring bluetooth is on)

I have also ensured that the GPS is on, I have all-day sync enabled, both the versa and my phone are well charged.

I'm a bit at a loss as to what to do next, I would very much like the notification functionality of the smartwatch back, as well as proper syncing between my phone.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best wishes,

Vick

I am having the same issue for 2+ months, they told me it's a known issue. And, no eta on programming issues.

I did as you posted and this time it did ask for permission to access phone, SMS, etc. , and have received some messages, so I'm optimistic.

I'm also very confused as to why reinstalling the app with bluetooth enabled and on and re-pairing from scratch didn't resolve this.

Thanks for the help and if it lasts, I'll come back and mark this as resolved.

Hi Kuzibri,

Thanks for your help yesterday. It seems to be syncing some notifications now, but it is still missing all of my phone calls. I have checked to make sure that the Fitbit app has permissions to access the phone and contacts, but it isn't responding properly still.

I'm trying your second post now and hopefully that one works better.

Thanks for your help so far, I appreciate you taking the time to help out.

Hi Kuzibri,

Thanks for the help and time you've taken so far, it's really appreciated.

It still seems to be hit or miss with syncing, I have to detach and reattach my fitbit almost daily in order to get it to sync and give notifications.

Thanks again Kuzibri for taking the time, I'm glad you're trying to help others.

I'm surprised and disappointed that no representative of fitbit has reached out yet, I'm request an RMA for this, as it is unresolved and the functionality that I paid for isn't being provided.

Hi @Vick_L , brought your problem under the attention of the Moderator team. One of them will be soon contacting you in your post, so keep a close eye on it.

BTW, do you have a tablet? If yes, install the Fitbit app on your tablet and se if that solves your syncing issues with the suggestions I did before. The differencenetween a phone and a tablet is that when you start the Fitbit app without BT on a tablet and start syncing manually, it will tell you that BT is disabled and if Fitbi should enable it. Press yes and you will see a list of BT devices detected by your tablet. The Versa hould be in that list, press ready and Fitbit starts automatically the syncing process.

BTW, if this also not solve your problems, what youcan do in the mean time waitin for a definite solution, is to remove the WiFi settings in your Fitbit app. Although this gives problems with transferring music and installing apps, syncing is much more important.

Thanks for the advice, I'll drop the wifi from the Fitbit and see if that helps. Unfortunately, I don't have a tablet so that isn't an option. Thanks again for all your time and effort, you've been wonderful.

Hi Juan,

Just as an update - I did the steps that @SunsetRunner mentioned and I am able to get notifications now, however I am not able to receive notifications from phone calls until after they are missed. Previously, (during the first 5 months of owning the fitbit) I was able to recieve alerts on my watch as I was getting phone calls. That functionality is very important to me, as my phone is usually on vibrate for work and I tend to miss the vibraiton in my pocket, but not on my wrist.

I did receive a notification for a firmware upgrade for my Fitbit, and I was able to do the install. The overall functionality is the same as prior, but I'm still missing phone call notifications until after the call is missed.

I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for that? It seems odd to lose that functionality that was previously there.

Best wishes,

Vick

Hey @SLC71 , thank you for your reply and confirming that everything is working as it should again.

Please do not hesitate to post again if you have further questions.

@Vick_L , nice to see you back. I apologize for my delayed response. Thank you for the updates and information provided.

Could you please check, that on the cell phone, the Energy Saving Mode and that the Do not Disturb (Silence) Options are turned off.

Also as you already installed the update on your Fitbit device, please swipe down on the display. When you see the drop down menu, please select the Option on your right side, you'll have a Quick menu available.

Verify that the Sleep Mode and/or the Don't Disturb options are also off.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi @JuanFitbit ,

Thanks for getting back in touch.

I can confirm that my phone is not in energy saving mode or do not disturb mode. Similarly, my fitbit is not in sleep mode or do not disturb mode. I am able to receive notifications from text messages, calender and email, just not phone calls until after they are missed. I do have the Fitbit app set to give call notifications.

Thanks,

Vick

Hi @JuanFitbit

Just to confirm I'm using the right version - my Fitbit App version is 3.8 (20243440). Is this the right one? I'm still having issues and have rebooted my phone.

Hi @Vick_L , thank you for your reply and further information. Just to confirm you, you have installed the current version of the Fitbit app.

  • Make sure that no other Bluetooth device is connected to the phone or nearby. (Headphones, speakers keyboards, etc.)

Please perform these steps, some you have already done, but the order is important:

  • Restart your Versa.
  • Then scroll down on the display. You'll see 3 options on the Quick Settings Menu (Musik, Wallet and 2 bars). Tipp on the bars and verify that the Don't Disturb and Sleep mode are off.
  • Please on the phone, go to Settings> Bluetooth, and remove all the connections that are with the watch. (Forget device, ignore or unpair depending on the version of the operating system of the phone)
  • Turn off the Bluetooth and restart the phone. (switch off and on again).
  • When the phone is back on, turn the Bluetooth on again, but DO NOT attempt to connect to the tracker from here.
  • Go on the app. From here, try setting up the tracker as a new device without removing it first form the Account.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi @JuanFitbit ,

Thanks for the reply. These are similar to Kuzibiri's suggestions, and I tried them again and still am not receiving notifications from phone calls, but I am able to receive them from SMS, Whatsapp, etc. It's just specifically phone calls that do not send any messages.

I checked the notifications for phone, and they are all enabled, but for some reason it doesn't transfer to the Fitbit. I double checked that the Fitbit app has permission to access phone, but I still can't get phone notifications that I'm getting a call, only notifications that I missed a call.

Thanks,

Vick
