Everything I’ve seen and read says you can swim in the Fitbit versa, ruined my Fitbit by swimming

Regarding your inquiry, as you can see in the attachment, Fitbit Versa is water resistant up to 50 meters, it isn't waterproof.

Well I went swimming dried it off as soon as I got out and the screen was black and wouldn’t charge.

I got exactly the same thing. went in the water, dried it and the screen never turned on again. 
Charging did nothing. mine has been down since the day before yesterday.
