Can't turn off All-Day sync in the Fitbit app

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Since this new dashboard has been released my Versa now Auto Syncs even though the auto-sync option is turned off in the settings. I’ve tried turning it on and off. Doesn’t help. Turning off Bluetooth works but what’s the point in that?  I use Bluetooth in my car and I rely on my messages and work emails coming up on the watch, which will NOT happen if Bluetooth is off. So...HOW can I REALLY stop auto sync from happening when the option is off in the settings?  If there is no fix for this, that’s dumb and I’ll get another device from another competitor.

Hello there @Deanna783, it's nice to see you around. I'm sorry for the late response. I totally understand how you feel. Rest assured that I will do my best to help you.

Data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day. Each time you open the Fitbit app, your device syncs automatically when it's nearby. You can also use the Sync Now option in the app at any time.

If your device stopped syncing, the likely problem is a connection issue. For detailed information on how to diagnose and solve the problem, see Why won't my Fitbit device sync?

I think what she was saying is... you used to be able to choose not to have the all day sync on.  You'd have the option to sync when you were ready.  That is no longer an option on the new dashboard with Versa... I can't speak for the other models.   It was a nice feature for some of us that compete with others. If they constantly know how many steps you have it gives them an advantage.

Yes... my batt life drains in 1 day for a device that should last 4+ days. The advice is to turn off all day sync but i cant??? So i need to charge my fitbit daily? How do make the bat last longer?

I'm having the same issue. My versa used to last for several days. Now it is dying by the end of the second day. The only thing that has changed is that it is now auto syncing when before I would manually do it.

Hi Deanna,

I know how you feel! Super frustrated with this as well. As I do not believe there is a fix for this within the fitbit app, I can suggest the following which I just discovered! It is still slightly annoying, however, it fixes your issue without having to turn off your bluetooth connections completely. In your phone - go to settings - then find the fitbit app settings - turn off bluetooth for it and also turn off background app refresh. When you are ready to sync your fitbit again, go back into the settings and turn on bluetooth for the app. This way - your bluetooth remains on, and even your fitbit connected to your phone. However, it will not update it in the app until you turn the bluetooth function back on for the app in your device settings. Hope this helps!!

Just a thought - instead of going through all of the steps you mentioned, how about just take the mobile app out of memory?

If it is the device that is initiating the sync, then my idea will not work. But if the mobile app initiates the sync, then you should see some changes in battery usage.

Then, if you want a quick refresh via a sync, restart the app, let it sync and take it back out of memory when you are done.

FYI - my Versa 2 only uses between 12 and 18 percent of its battery each day. I have gotten into the routine of charging the device every day while taking my before-dinner shower and it is never lower than 82 percent when I hook it up to the charging cable.

Haven't used my Blaze in a looooong time and got it charged up only to discover that we can no longer only do a manual sync. Chatted with support and they verified that it's now always on and can't be disabled. I like your solution, but what a royal pita. Running on IOS and battery life is already a challenge.

Does anyone know of a fitness watch that will allow you to sync only when you request it? We're pitching this thing.

Hu MrMarv,

what do you mean by taking it “out of memory”?

My new Versa 3 does not have the option to turn off all day syncing, and this def used to be something that Fitbit themselves warned about its potential to negatively impact on battery life.

I for one wish they’d left us simple users to decide when and how often we wanted our devices to sync, so I’m intrigued by your suggestion to take it out of memory. 😊

It’s a stupid decision to have automatic sync on permanently.   My Versa used to run for 5 days on a charge. Now it runs out daily.  How annoying.  I’ll never buy another Fitbit.

Hi @Blimthorpe - the automatic syncing will not normally cause the issue you have, it is generally something else.

Use Shutdown from the watch Settings, About menu

Wait at least 10 seconds [to allow it to complete] then inspect the back sensor windows using a magnifying glass for condensation.

Place it on charge to restart it and charge it and if it gets hot stop immediately.
