Connected GPS overestimated distance

Just completed a half marathon but my Fitbit tells me I’ve done 23.4km.

I was going by the pace on my watch and thinking I was doing well, until I hit 21km on my watch, with 2 miles still to go on course. 😱

What’s going on with it? The map looks fine, just seems like it’s overestimating distance all the time.

I’d love to be able to fix this!

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @Seasiderunning. I am sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing your concern regarding the connected GPS overestimating distance. Thank you for providing the additional details. Fitbit devices calculate distance by multiplying your walking steps and walking stride length. Similarly, your running steps are multiplied by your running stride length. This will not necessarily match a pre-measured distance, nor will it show exactly what a GPS device will show. Connected GPS uses the GPS sensors on your nearby phone to provide real-time activity stats including distance, pace, and route. You can enter your personal stride length to make the distance calculation more accurate. I also recommend checking out this article with the information about the different factors that can affect connected GPS.

For more information about accuracy of Fitbit devices and captured GPS data, please see this help article: How accurate are Fitbit devices?
