Cut band in half?

I'm returning a Fitbit Versa band because I accidentally bought the wrong size, but customer service wants me to cut it in half.

I don't understand why, and also if I were to cut it how should I cut it? like vertically or horizontally?

Please help

I think it's an anti-fraud measure to make sure you're not selling it. As long as it's made unusable then how you cut it in half doesn't matter.

Thanks Steve! I was really confused because customer service didn't explain. Bur it makes a lot of sense now.
