When I do exercise with my fitbit, it gives me one type of reading when I start an actual exercise and a different reading when I finish and check my day's heart rate. The exercise setting usually reads a bit higher. Is this normal?

@Joeelgringo Welcome! It's great to see you around! Sorry to hear about the discrepancy between your heart rate data. Try cleaning the back of the Versa with cotton and rubbing alcohol and then restart it. Also check these tips to improve the heart rate reading. Remember that the graph may display with a different scale on the website/app and this may appear as a different reading.
Let me know how it goes!

What do you mean it might display with a different scale?
