Different results with sleep settings?

K, I was from the beginning setting my app at bedtime to start tracking my sleep every night.  It shows I'm getting 3-4 hrs asleep time. Which I believe!  Then I learned it can show sleep cycles and to not touch the app and jet it it’s set on its own nightly. So the last few nights I’ve done that and it was showing 7 hrs time asleep which I knew was not true.  Why is there a difference between the 2 methods? Last night I went back to setting the app and it showed 4 hrs.

It seems that in that method it subtracts all the “ restless sleep” off your total . Which makes sense.  But on the sleep cycle app it just subtracts your actual “ awake” time off.

I like seeing my rem, deep sleep etc but I want to know my true hours actually sleeping.   Why are they both different!?

As far as I understand, using "Begin Sleep Now" before you go to bed and then tapping on "I'm Awake" once you wake up simply creates a log with the total time passed between those two actions.

Letting the watch record your sleep manually creates a log based on your heart rate variability and your movement in bed, which usually ends up being more accurate. It is pretty weird, however, that you'll get less time with the one that you have to manually trigger to start and finish...

Ya I don’t nderstand it’s more detailed etc I’m just confused as to why one shows my sleep 3-4 hrs “ actual sleep” a night and the other shows only the “ awake moments” subtracted and then shows say 7 hrs.  I definitely don’t feel rested when I wake if I actually hit 7 hrs. lol as each of those awake moments are actually awake and not sleeping...

Anyone else have a theory?  Why does the detailed report only subtract the actual awake moments but the log seem to subtract the restless sleep / light .  I tried again yesterday and it showed a  hour of “ awake” and gave me 7.5 hrs asleep... but yet I know I did not actually sleep 7.5 hrs cause those moments “ awake” I do recall and did not fall back to sleep right away.! There is no way I actually slept 7.5 hrs last night.
