Difficulties with set up and music control-Versa

So I am a huge fan of Pebble, I've owned a Kickstarter edition and a Time. I received a Versa as a gift yesterday and have been dealing with functionality issues with every expect of the device.

Now I'm not too interested in health tracking, I just wanted a competent upgrade to my Pebble Time and I think this could be it if these issues are fixed.

Before anyone asks, I'm using a fully compatible Galaxy S7 Edge on GSM Android 7.0.

Issues found:

1. Setup experience was a mess, it was incredibly un-intuitive and I actually had to unpair the device and restart all because I accidentally pressed back once during account creation.

2. Media/Music control showed up once, but it didn't respond to touches and I never got it to work again, the Bluetooth was so iffy I have to manually unpair, repair, restart the watch and phone frequently just to get them to connect, all to have this fundamental feature not work. Volume does change, however. And yes, I've followed all the useless guides and searched these forums.

3. I've crashed the entire device by changing apps. It's pretty buggy and it takes forever to restart.

4. Fitness tracking issues, I'm personally not interested in this feature but it's constantly tracking steps, even when I'm just texting in bed. It's insanity to think FitBit screwed this one up. I know many people will get this for that reason alone.

I'm really surprised to say this, but I'm leaving this watch at home and taking my Pebble back until I get these features working. This device shouldn't have been released in this state.

Hey @Mccloliam, it's great to welcome you.

Thanks for troubleshooting this by yourself and I will be glad to help you out with the issues you are having:

  • Setup: I appreciate the feedback provided about this. It's great to know that at the end you were able to paired your Versa.
  • Music: If you are having issues with this feature, I recommend taking a look at the help article Why can't I control music on my phone with my Fitbit device? and follow the instructions provided there.
  • Apps: Is this issue happening with all the apps or not? In the meantime, follow the instructions in the How do I install and manage apps on my Fitbit watch? article.
  • Steps: Your Versa might register some extra steps depending on your hand movement, if it is registering too much steps, you can adjust your stride length and restart your watch.

I hope this helps, let me know the outcome. Smiley Happy

I appreciate the feedback, I've been using the device a lot more and it's still really finnicky. I know quite a bit about Android and its back-end, so I can tell that it's really struggling to fully function. Most of the time I've gotten Music to work but once in a while it simply stops.

As of now, all of my major complaints are resolved although I can't say how they were. It simply started working once I reinstalled my Pebble to use that instead. I'm definitely not as happy with it as I could be, but in its current state it's definitely a worthy upgrade in many ways.

If I can be of any help with suggesting OS tweaks, functionality and interface, I'd gladly offer solutions and input in general. Here are some right now:

1. Music has to refresh automatically more frequently, many people have posted with problems with it.

2. If there won't ever be context based text replies, there must be more quick reply messages that you can add. I believe there are five and that just doesn't cut it.

3. Changing clockfaces is a real pain, you can't have more than one on the device and it takes forever to download. Perhaps saving it on the phone and loading it from there and not the internet? It just limits your ability to try things if it takes 5 minutes to find one you like and several more minutes to apply it.

4. On the phone app itself, I'd appreciate a battery percentage, not a "full" "half" etc. It would also be nice to have an indicator somewhere on the watch that's easily accessible like the Pebble was.

5. It's nice to be able to go through old notifications on the watch, that way you can read through multiple texts over again without having the device on you, even the first Pebble did this. As for now, it just clears and throws away the notifications.
