At the end of a tracked exercise session I get a calorie count. Does the count include the basal metabolic rate or not?
For example: my fitbit shows 500 calories burned during exercise. Is this exercise ONLY calories or activity calories PLUS bmr?

It does include your BMR calorie burn.

So I just spoke to customer support and they said the activity calories DO NOT include bmr. Only the calories burned for the total day includes it

Here's how to test it yourself:
Find out what Fitbit is using for your BMR. Look at the calories burned chart for overnight when you are asleep and see what the calorie burn rate is. Chart shows calories per 15 minute interval.
Then use the Exercise App, tell it you are starting a Run, or any other exercise option. But instead of working out, lie down quietly for a while. After a while, stop the workout. After it syncs, look at the workout summary on your phone app. During this so-called "workout", you would have been burning just BMR calories or slightly above. If the calorie burn for the "workout" is zero, it does not include BMR. But if the calorie burn is similar to what you burn during similar time asleep at night, then it is including your BMR calorie burn.
I tried this once before to convince myself, but try it for yourself and you can easily find out which it is.
