I previously had the Versa which counted steps by wrist movement. Works great if your arm is down and moving. I am a custodian and I am usually pushing or carrying something so the step counts were always inaccurate. I thought with the Versa 3 the problem would be solved. It's not. It doesn't even count the stairs accurately as I have been up at least 5 flights and it only shows 1. It's there a setting I'm missing or does it not work that way?

Hi @klmcgivern - GPS is not used to count steps.
As you have found it uses an accelerometer [and/or arm movement] to count steps, this can sometimes be fooled if you push a trolley.
As regards the floor count there seems to be an issue in the firmware. For many people it is grossly over reading, may be you are carrying something that fools it into under reading.

Do any Fitbit devices use GPS for step tracking?

No @klmcgivern GPS will only track distance and location. Besides GPS is only turned on durring The recording of a few selected exercises. Also GPS being a line of sight technology makes it next to useless while under a roof.
