Exercise mode stops when Versa 3 reaches the step goal

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've noticed a number of times, when I am in exercise mode (running), and I reach my daily 10,000 step goal, exercise mode quits.

I'll be actively running with exercise mode on.  I reach my step goal, my watch vibrates and I get the visual alert indicating the goal is met, and then I realize that exercise mode is no longer active, GPS is off, and my pace/time is no longer being recorded.  I have to manually restart exercise mode

Has anyone else encountered this?

Hello @realDavid and welcome to the Community.  I am answering to acknowledge your post.  I haven't experienced this, because of timing.  I'm a morning exerciser.  But I will try using the app on purpose to see if I can recreate your experience and report back.

@realDavid   When I reached my step goal, the animation played and the star appeared.  I didn't touch a thing.  About 10-15 seconds later, it went back to the exercise screen and the GPS stayed connected.  I finished my walk normally with complete stats and my map.  Did you push the button to dismiss the goal celebration screen?  I didn't do that, but if that is the issue, then that is an experiment for another day.

Thanks for testing this out. I don't recall that I did push the button or
attempt to dismiss the notification.
I will test that as well, hopefully tomorrow.

Hi @LZeeW , I tested this a couple of times over the last few days.

I enabled exercise mode (in my two test cases, walking).  When I hit my step goal of 10,000 the watch vibrated, and the animation played.  I did not touch the watch (screen or button) and waited at least 15 seconds.  When I turned my wrist to activate the display, it had returned to the watch face, and the exercise mode had stopped.   I experienced the same behaviour both times.

I have since reset my Versa back to factory settings and reconfigured it.  I will test this again ASAP.

@realDavid   This is very odd.  I was using the walk shortcut.  I will try the run shortcut to see if it is a bug in the run settings.  I am interested in knowing what happens with the factory reset.

It was the walk shortcut I used for my last two tests. I initially noticed
it while using the run shortcut.

I'll advise how it goes since the factory reset.

Update after the factory reset:

I enabled exercise mode (walking).  I knew I was close to my step goal (around 8,000 steps), but I didn't get the vibration/visual notification of the goal being reached.  At the end of my walk, exercise mode was still running.  I manually stopped it, and saw that my number of steps was now about 11,500, but the notification didn't occur.

I'm quite fine with not getting the goal notification, but I don't remember that I manually enabled it to begin with.  At any rate, I'll try again tomorrow to see if the exercise mode continues to work if not interrupted by the goal alert.

@realDavid Have you tried different clock faces? I use a basic Fitbit one and calories are my goal. The goal reached celebration has never affected a workout on any Fitbit I've had since 2016. Hope it's under warranty if the issue continues.

@MarkMM I hadn't tried that yet.  I'll give it a go if the issue persists.  Thanks

@realDavid   I tried this with two different shortcuts.  I used workout (no GPS) and hike with GPS.  Both times the celebration screen disappeared and the exercise app kept working normally.  If your troubleshooting hasn’t fixed things, I think it’s time to contact Support  for more help.

Thanks @LZeeW @MarkMM for your input and suggestions.

Final update:  after the factory reset, things seem to be working OK. The goal notification does occur (though the watch does not vibrate, but I'm OK with that, I"m sure it is just a setting I've toggled somewhere.), and a few seconds later, it returns to the typical exercise mode.

I did notice that the visual notification did look a little different that what I had seen before, so perhaps there was a firmware/OS update that I didn't have originally that got applied after in updated on the reset.

At any rate, I'm quite happy with the way it is working now.  Thanks again for the input and feedback.  Happy health, everyone!

@realDavid   There is a vibration setting in the Versa 3 Settings app.  You can choose between Light and Strong (their description, not mine).  I suspect that the default is Light.

Right you are.  The default was Light, which I guess means you won't notice it when you are exercising!

Thanks again.
