FItbit Pay not working at gas station (Petro-Canada)

Hi,

Has anyone experienced failed transactions at gas stations, specifically Petro Canada?

I tapped my watch against the tap area on the pump, my watch vibrates and the screen on the pump asked me to specify the max amount for this transaction. I entered $60 and pressed enter. Then the pump said the transaction was not approved.

But when i use my physical card and performed the same actions, it went through without a hitch.

Is there something i’m doing wrong here? Any insights are very welcomed!

Hello @BenjaminSYC, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have brought this to my attention. Tell me, is this the first time you've experienced issues with Fitbit Pay? Have you experienced this issue while paying on other places? If so, please let me know.

In the meantime, please restart your Fitbit Versa by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen, then monitor you watch in case this happens again.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Hi Marco,

Thank you for the prompt response. I have not experienced any difficulties with Fitbit pay except at this gas station. I have restarted my Versa and will update the next time I fill up.

Benjamin, sorry for hijacking your thread, but I'm very curious about your experiences with Fitbit pay in Canada. I have Versa LE but do not have RBC cc. Does it work like any NFC? Just tap and go? Or, do you have to open wallet app on Versa to activate NFC payment? Thx a bunch!

Hi Marmaduke. No worries at all. When using Fitbit pay you do not need to bring out your phone. I hold the left button of my Versa and it goes into “pay mode”, displaying the credit card. Then you just hold it close to an NFC receiver and it vibrates once the payment completes.

Note that when you add your first credit card, it’s prompts you to create a passcode. Every time you put on the watch, it prompts you for the code to ensure you’re you (in case of theft, so you’re cc won’t fall into the wrong hands).

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! I wondered exactly about the button thing. Thank you for clarifying that for me! ☺️

Hi Marco,

No luck. I restarted my Fitbit at the gas station and tried to use tap at the pump. It gave me the same issue as described in my initial post.

I’m going to be filling up at Petro Canada on Monday on the way to work. Will let you know if I encounter any problems with my Versa

Same here, Fitbit Pay never works at Petro Canada, which is disappointing because that was one of the places I really want to use my RBC Mastercard for the 3 cents off per L.  I was going to call RBC but never got around to it.  Anybody have this resolved now?

Hi ACG, any luck on your Petro-Canada trip? My last gas trip gave me the same results as my first post.

I called RBC to have them look into this.  Apparently they don't even get any authorization requests on their end, so it seems that Petro-Canada simply does not allow for FitBit Pay at the pump and does not even attempt to authorize the transaction.
